I have read other posts on updating BIOS, but they seem to be specific to other folks computers. I went to the MSI website, found my motherboard, and got all the way here-- http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=436&kind=1 --but I don't know what to do past this ( actually I'm nervous to do anything 'cuz I read that you could ruin your computer if you do it wrong). I know my last update was 3/29/04 so do I go to the update immediatly after that date and start downloading? Thanks for any help.

my device manager says I have 4 unknown devices under usb controllers, all but one of my usb ports do not work unless I plug something in, and restart the computer with it already plugged in, and if I take it out of the usb port, a window pops up that says something like usb device not recognized, and I just installed a device for transcription work on my computer and there is a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it next to the device (which is hooked up to a usb). When I look it up under the device manager, it said code 10, when I troubleshoot code 10 it says BIOS may not be updated properly. Sorry for the helter skelter reply, I hope you understood all of that. Thanks for the link.

Just for the sake of argument...have you tried downloading the latest version of the USB drivers required for your board and then uninstall the old and reinstall the new driver??

Also you might try the same with the chipset driver for your motherboard!!

Both of these approaches are a lot more safe than flashing a bios!! And are capable of fixing a lot of problems!!

thanks for the response....this has been an ongoing problem for over a year now....I did update all the drivers that nVidia had but that did nothing. It has been awhile since I have tried to deal with this issue, so I can't really remember what I did last...I think I just went to nVidia website, and downloaded the updated drivers, uninstalled the old and installed the new,but it didn't solve the problem, and I found out if I just plugged whatever I was using into the usb and restarted, that solved the problem of the usb not working until I unplugged it. Now I have to have this working, so somehow I have to fix this problem.

In the device manager, under usb controllers, I have 4 "unknown device"'s and when I view their properties, it says no drivers are installed for this device. When I try to update the driver in the device manager, it says nothing better was found. I don't get it.
