IBM 570 Laptop- screen is dark!

Help!!
I switched this unit on after approx 1 month lay off, only to find that the screen won't light up fully!
I can see a faint outline of the Window, but can't brighten it to be able to use it.
Any tips welcome.

 

Eek, sounds like the backlight has gone.

Have a look here and see if your up to the task! I'm guessing its out of warranty?

I have a backlight in transit, but somewhat disappointed in details of the project, which don't appear to be available short of going to the advert links. Was that the idea? or have I missed something?

Thanks for that but I am familiar with and have this already,
However when I tried shutting and opening the lid a few times I noticed that the screen lights up when about two inches from being fully closed, but if I move the laptop cover above the two inch mark it goes dark again.
Obviously the rotary contacts in the hinge must be damaged!
Any tips on how to repair it very welcome.
