IBM T42 latop soundmax audio died ...

So I've had an IBM T42 laptop for a while. A while back, the sound stopped working - I didn't worry about it, but it's becoming increasingly annoying so I'd like to get this working again.

It "beeps" when it is turned on ... but other than that, there are no sounds when Windoze starts up, play MP3's, etc. Yes, I've done all the obvious stuff - volume isn't muted, device manager says sound max card is working, etc.

Still nothing - from internal or external speakers.

I tried upgrading the BIOS and re-installing audio drivers - still zippo.


Any ideas/suggestions?

 

the only thing i can think of trying is reinstalling windows, sorry.
