   I recently changed this by mistake, and it worked because my background was a solid color. But now I can't get it back to the transparent color . . . is there anyway to do this?

   if XP and its the dark background around the text then Control Panel > System > Advanced > under the performance heading click Settings, under Visual Effects scroll down to the bottom and put a tick in Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop > Apply
