Alright, so this happens to me frequently (100% of the time in AutoCAD) and it drives me up the wall. I'd like to have all my icons set to detail view all the time. I know there's a way to change things, but it always changes back. I've also heard something about changing to details view and holding down the right shift key while you close the window or something, but that doesn't seem to work for me. How do I change this view? It's like this when opening a file from inside the program to edit it. :cry

    Hi Paxton

This has been the same since XP, the folder view remembering is poor, they gave the target number of folders to remember (300 in XP and 5000 in Vista) a low figure and as you add more folders some others start reverting to default. I was hoping they'd fix this in Vista but sadly not (need to check Win7)

but you can adjust the figure of folders to remember.

Open regedit in start search box by typing regedit

    Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell

In the right pane, right click, choose New > click on DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it BagMRU Size

Then in the right pane again right click the newely created BagMRU key and choose modify > click Decimal and type 20000 (to remember 20000 folders or a figure of your choosing) and click OK, reboot and the setting should help the folders getting amnesia.

*likely a tweak app or two for Vista may have this option to change that figure, but as many dont its a bit of trial and testing to find out what one does.

It's not really a folder though, so would it apply? I don't mean to make either of us sound bad. I'm attaching 2 more pictures. 1 is the folder when I view it by clicking the shortcut on my desktop, and the other is the same group of folders when I open AutoCAD and click File> Open

One shows by details, and the other (inside the program) shows as regular icons..

The attachment named "Folder" always defaults to details, and that's how I'd like it to be inside the program, so I can see more of the drawings I've done, and not have to change the view manually every time I open a new drawing. That "Select Initial View" box isn't it, it's for inside the program.

Likely not as some folder views are application dependent, but worth a try, also are you using CCLeaner on that PC? if so check to see its not listing AutoCad in its Application list, if so untick and it could be reseting the apps defualts.

Sadly I dont know the inner workings and prefs of AutoCad.

Thank you for your attention to this Halo. I'll check for settings in the program and do as you suggested.
