Icons changing by themselves

Hi all,

My pc is doing something very strange and I'm hoping someone might have come across this before - it's sounding suspiciously like malware trouble. The shortcuts on my desktop periodically change their icons, not all of them, just one or two and only sometimes. The latest is DVD Shrink which has adopted the Adobe Acrobat icon and about 2 weeks ago a file restorer programme changed it's icon from one day to the next. I have scanned for malware and have AVG Antivirus and Spybot Guardian on Windows XP. I'm worried that something is going on but don't know what to do - any help gratefully appreciated.

I have the same problem it's my utorrent the icon turn to the witcher icon from time to time.

I think is a registry issue not malware or virus and turn back okay by him self so did not found the cure yet maybe you will have better luck then me.....

Thanks for replying - the registry surely must change for a reason though? Unless this means a failure of some sort - ie operating system glitch or some such? Has this only happened to your pc since you installed uTorrent? I wonder then if it is to do with some file recovery software I downloaded??

This begin to happen when i switch to SP2 when i have SP1 do not happen.....

I am pretty shure it just a bug in SP2.

 

No I haven't got uTorrent at the moment. I have had it in the past but have formatted and reinstalled Windows since then and I do not now have uTorrent. This has happened literally in the last few weeks and it's not connected with any new installations - which is what is so strange. I'm only concerned it may be spyware of some sort. It is a bit annoying but not life destroying!!
