    Hello,

I am getting ready to build a new computer and in looking at motherboards IDE headers are becoming rare in favor of SATA. My problem is I have many IDE hard drives. I know I could move the data over to SATA drives. I am wondering about the IDE cards, when you plug in drives do the drives show up just as they normally would in explorer? Then how about speed? Is there a speed hit because they are going through a add in card?

Any real life experience with using a IDE card would be appreciated.

No ones used a add in ide card? Google won't tell me much or show me a screen shot. They are cheap, I guess I will just order one to try.

I do have 2 sata drives, I just want to retain the 4 ide drives I have now and want them all inside the case. I am mainly just asking how the drives will show up and the speed on a add in ide card.

I am interested in this myself. I am currently using IDE drives, but have sata drives ordered (my mobo supports both). My question is related, I've seen adaptors (not cards) that are reversible. They plug into the drive and opposite cables go into the opposite side. Is this a better option than an add in card? Has anyone used these? This isn't exactly what I was looking at, but is the general idea... http://www.cooldrives.com/satoidecofor.html As I said, my mobo supprts both, but is anything gained or lost by running all the drives on one standard? (I.E. will running IDE drives through a sata interface make them faster, or will having having IDE on the sata cause a hit in the native sata performance?)
