Is there a way to identify an attacker using script to crash a program? The problem is in a chatroom, the user is using a script that causes the entire program to error and close. The error just says program not responding, then exits completely.

This does not sound like something that should be dicussed in the malware forum.

It sounds like you should be discussing it with whoever runs the chatroom.

You're welcome. Are you saying the attack shuts down applications of your PC? How do you know the attack is coming from the chatroom and not from something running locally on your PC?

It only shuts down the chat program. It causes the program to become non-responsive, and yes it is definitely coming from the chatroom as it happens to everyone in the rooms. It is some kind of code that is typed into the room, apparently a corrupt rtf code or something that is causing an error in the chat program. Since I was getting the error report details I thought there might be a way to identify where it was coming from so we can stop it. But the more I think about it, since it is just a code they are typing in it would probably just identify the chat server, anything further would need to come from the operators I supose.

Yes I have seen that many times also ...usually they were sent direct to pm and caused you to freeze but not a problem if you were in dnd or blocked private messages. This closes the entire program of everyone in the room, no need to pm. Says program is not responding and needs to close.
