Identifying what RAM I need to buy

I was given an older (2000) Gateway Essential 500c. I set it up in the kid's room, and it seems to work fine, no issues, but it's tiny 7 gig hard drive was crammed with games, some trial versions. I began dumping those that I knew they wouldn't want, and word from them indicates I can kill off many more. It showed I was using about 4.5 gigs, and once I dumped some games, it dropped to 3 or under, so I'm on the right track.

They basically want to use it to do homework or other stuff that they can then dump onto a flash drive. It has a USB port but I don't remember the brand of my flash drive, so I can't get a driver for it (it's Win98 and therefore won't recognize new stuff like XP will). That's a whole other issue though, not on fire. If I post a pic of my flash drive, suppose anyone can i.d. the brand?

The issue here is the RAM. As stated, it's Win 98 with a 7 gig hard drive and 64 megs of RAM. I popped the cover and took a quick look at the memory stick that's in there, it's a single one as opposed to a pair, so is that SIMMS? I think I read 100Mhz on it too, which I'm sure has some bearing on what I buy.

I'd like to buy at least a 128 stick for it, maybe two, so there will be less chance of RAM issues, but I want to be sure I'm buying the right thing. Is there a way, through Properties, Control Panel, etc, that I can determine what the existing memory is? I mean, whether it's SIMMS, 100Mhz, 133Mhz, SDRAM, etc etc?

As stated, this is just a spare pc that won't have a very full plate, so to speak, but since I got it for free it'd be worth throwing a few bucks at to keep it going a while.

    Thanks in advance!

This isn't my main pc, it's just for the kids to mess with. I know they can be bought cheap nowadays, but "free" is even cheaper than "cheap".

Ksdaddy.... The Gateway Essential 500c takes 168 pin PC-100 DIMM SDRAM CL=2 Non-Parity unbuffered Ram. You have 3 Ram sockets, and your machine can be upgraded to a maximum of 384 MB's of RAM. You can ALSO use PC-133 DIMM SDRAM Non-Parity unbuffered Ram in that machine if you have any hanging around. But if your buying some, go with the PC-100.
P.S That machine has a 500MHZ Pentium3 Processor in it (in case you didn't know) :)

ksdaddy, Everest will detail what RAM you have fitted and what specs each stick is.
Download and install it, free from MG. Then click on Computer, then click on Overclock. Scroll down to SPD memory Modules and all will be revealed.
The old box I recently purchased, has 3 x 64 sticks all different speeds, as I found out by using Everest. Bazza
