IE 6 opens slow

IE 6 (the program itself) opens slowly in XP.

It's not a connection problem . My home page is blank, meaning no connection is necessary for it.

Once IE has opened, it opens Web pages fine. (Unless I open a link in another window -- so-o-o-o-o slow.)

I tried Ad Aware; seemed to help a little. But still way slow.

    Any thoughts?

Perhaps it is a browser hijacker or special toolbars that you may have. Do you have any download managers or other software associated with browser opening? Try scanning with SpyBot Search & Destroy.

Hi samarshall slowness in IE is normally caused by the processor doing something else.Look in task manager under possessors then check down the CPU line to make sure the settings are at zero.Apart from system idle process

Well, thanks to both, but no luck.

I've run SpyBot and Ad Aware, and have no download manager that I'm aware of.

As to processes, System Idle is around 98, but everything else is at 00.

One contributor to Tek-Tips suggested deleting a value from the registry, but I'm postponing that as long as possible.

    Any other ideas?

Do you get a blank frame of the Internet Explorer window before the contents fill in but until the window is filled within the window frame, your desktop is visible? See here: http://66.98.158.200/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19663&highlight=desktop

Do you have the latest display drivers? Can you tell us more about the hardware configuration?

Do you have a Firewall? Ad pop-up blocker? or anything else that monitors internet connections?

I've had similar problems, but with my mail, outlook 6, so I'll second the request for any help here. I run Win98
According to microsoft the problem relates to a file named PSTORE ( several actually ).
I followed their instructions on removal and re-installation, ( can't find the link at the moment ) wound up with the same problem. When I just remove it ( ie rename it ) everything works fine.....
Anyone here know what PSTORE is and does exactly? It is the cause of the problems I've had with outlook, well, seemingly.
    Thanks.

    Thanks Maxwell.
Any thoughts on what could have, um, 'corrupted' it, and anything I should worry about with not having it running?
Probably Newbish questions, but heck, I don't claim to know everything, heh.
    Cheers.

Here is another article from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q271510

but, you know this refers to the performance of Outlook Express and not to the performance of Internet Explorer. There is some indication there of possible causes of corruption and the purpose of PSTORE is there to protect your data.
