Has there been an IE update?
Or is MS following current marketing trends and trying to tell me what I need?
Yesteday my toolbar changed it's self.
The search bar and command icons disappeared.
Of course I paniced when I started getting Spybot warnings about a browser registry change attemt, so I disconnected from the internet, ran my scans , checks, defragged, ran chkdsk /r and deleted temps etc and found nothing.
I still have the same internal tool bar- one bar with File, edit, etc and another bar with command icons.
IE used to look like this, with a third line for the search bar.
Now, afyer trying everything I could think of, I have my search bar back but my command icons are in a drop down menu. ( it takes three or four clicks to do what I was doing with one)
My usual searches of sites and manuals is not getting me what I want, my online window back the way it was.
    Any ideas?

There have been a lot of updates to IE but since you did not tell us what OS and what version of IE you already have, we do not know whether you have them all or not.

Sorry about the double but before someone asks, I am using:

    ZAP
    NAV 05
    Ad-aware SE
    Spybot S&D
    Spyware Blaster
    Spyware Guard
    MRU Blaster

That's the current version of IE but make sure you check to see if you have installed all the patches that have come out. Goto WIndows Update and check to see if you have all the patches.

    No patches available.

When I run updates, all that comes up is the one for the journal reader.
The express update says "no updates available".

OK! So then you have all updates. Are you having any problems with your computer?

No other problem other than that Tea Timer alert I mentioned in my OP.
That is why I originally posted this in the software forum.

Well if you believe you have malware problems hiding in your PC, follow the cleanup procedures below and we will find out.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

The only item I see that looks questionable is:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AuditMode] C:\sysprep\factory.exe -logon

But this may be a valid application.

    Thank you for your time.

I sent my PC in for warranty service about six months ago and that may be from the factory troubleshooter.
I will contact them and see.
Well I guess I'm back where I started.

Did Spybot tell you what area of the registry was being edited? What were you doing at the time?
Have you seen this message anymore?

Problem solved by this comment from a friend: "If the toolbar isn't locked just move your cursor to the left edge of the toolbar then left click and drag it to where you want. The toolbars are movable.:

In hindsight, I think the problem was caused by a hijack attempt that was able to make some changes before my security programs killed it.

Again, thank you for your time and I would like to commend you and all the HJT readers for the time you give to helping others.
