There is a feature of IE that has always confused me. In browsers such as Chrome and Firefox, a shortcut to a web page can be created on the desktop by clicking on the left side of the address bar, and drag/drop this address to the desktop. The shortcut is created on the desktop and the web page is still visible in the browser. But IE behaves differently. Drag/drop the address to the desktop does create a desktop shortcut. BUT, the web page is no longer visible in the browser. Instead IE opens a new browser window and displays the web page in that window. I hate this behavior.

Is there a way to get IE to behave the same as Chrome and Firefox?

Not an answer to your question but here is another option.
Right-click the webpage, click Create shortcut, and click Yes.

Good grief, how embarrassing. All the years I have been using the web and I missed this feature. Thanks for the info.!!!!
