IE;matshita;addremove;sytem problems

OK first let me say thanks for the help in removing a nasty security virus on my computer. After cleaning my system or maybe before it was clean my matshita dvd drive quit showing up in My Computer. Checked drivers and tried uninstalling then reinstalling and nothing worked. The wizard just say that it could not complete the installation and that it might not function properly.

I also noticed that I would have to click open multiple times for add remove and system to open in my control panel. I reinstalled IE 8 with the windows updates and before the update IE 7 was working fine. First boot after 7 to 8 patch and the address bar disappeared. Second boot just a browser with no address bar or tool bar. I followed MS suggestion for removing the web browser registry entry and that did not help. Am I still infected or is this a simple fix?

OH I have
toshiba satelite
XP sp3

 

If I run this "REGSVR32 /i BROWSEUI.DLL" the address and tool bar comes back but only once. When I close IE it reverts back to BUSTED :confused
