Running XP SP2 (slipstreamed CD install).

Well, I use Firefox 99% of the time anyway, but now my IE won't work with the Windows Update site, among a few others. If I go to the page, it just comes up blank (showing 'done' at the bottom). Oddly enough, if I go to 'view' then 'source', I can see everything in text. Amongst the text, I can see this line:

"You have tried to visit Windows Update with a browser that does not support Frames or ActiveX".

Also, javascript buttons on websites do nothing...I can click on them, but nothing happens.

It's been doing it for a while now. I have gone through the troubleshooting steps of basically setting IE for virtually no security level, and adding Windows Update to my trusted sites. All ActiveX parameters have been enabled. All services related to Update are running. I've run system file checker at boot up, I've reinstalled IE, I've tried replacing MS Java with Sun Java, all to no avail.

If I go to IE 'help'->'about', I see no version#, cipher strength, or product ID.

I believe this started happening after installing & subsequently removing Norton Systemworks 2005. In the Security Center, it still shows Norton Internet Worm Protection as being enabled, even though I removed everything. I even ran Registry Mechanic 5.0 & cleaned up everything it found, no change. I have been unable to find a specific SystemWorks 2005 remover on the Symantic site.

I am going to get a new HDD & reload everything from scratch soon anyway, but this problem I can't fix is annoying me to no end...

PS: I can still download the updates automatically & stay current that way, it's just annoying that I can't surf the Update site.

Thanks. I ran the program & it did it's thing...unfortunately my problem still remains. Windows still thinks Norton Internet Worm Protection is enabled & Update is still blank. I think I'm going to try re-installing SystemWorks & disabling Worm Protection in there, then removing again. Say goodbye to an hour or two of my life...

LOL. Okay, sorry it didn't work for you. The reinstall might be your solution.

    Good luck. :)
