Hi All I have a Tosheba Laptop running windows 8.1 and in IE that is slow to start up and sometimes freezes. I tried disabling adons it did not work... I left the adblock adon on because it kills pop up adds.

    Any help would be good.

    Hi Steadyone,

Are you manually disabling the addons or starting Internet Explorer with the -extoff switch? If you are manually disabling the addons, you might try typing in "iexplore.exe -extoff" into the Search field in your Charms Bar, and run it from the icon that pops up, effectively running Internet Explorer in a "Safe Mode".

AdBlock can be resource intensive addon, and can be known to cause performance issues. I'm unsure whether you've tried disabling it as part of your troubleshooting, or if you've left it on to keep ads at bay. If you've left it on, I'd try disabling it to see if it helps. There's always more adblock addons to try out, if that is indeed the culprit.

Thanks I did disable the adblock for IE and it improved big time. Do you have another adblock for IE that won't slow down the computer but get rid of adds?

What Ad-Block software were you using?
My experience is primarily with Adblock Plus, and I haven't had too many problems with it.

IE 10+ support a feature known as "Tracking Protection", which can help in blocking ads, drive-by downloads, and whatnot by blacklisting certain domains' content. EasyList (who make the primary adblock list for ABP), makes tracking protection lists for IE, so that's worth a shot imo.

As mentioned by Xernicus, Internet Explorer can use Tracking Protection Lists (TPLs).

Here are some from Microsoft you can add.

I also recommend Fanboy's Adblock and Tracking lists.

Just click the Add/Add TPL buttons. Then, in Internet Explorer, go to Manage add-ons > Tracking Protection and ensure they are enabled.

FYI TPLs work in IE9 and higher.
