You left out your OS. I can tell it is WinXP from you snapshot, but is it Pro or Home and are you up to SP1. Also, are you up to date all of Microsoft's updates. You can go to the following link to check:
    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

  8. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

Okay I can see from you HiJaak This log that you are using WinXP SP1. But check for Microsoft updates.

xp home and only update i needed, which i am getting now was a security update

  10. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

Have you downloaded, installed, UPDATED and run both Ad-aware and SpyBot Search & Destroy as I asked in my first post. If not do that and then run them both and clean up what they find.

By the way from you HiJaak This log I would have it delete the following:

    O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe

Not sure why, but in other spyware forums people are being directed to nuke all the http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com...etc. lines

  17. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

    Alan,

I'm not sure why it is necessary either, but if it were on my systems I would remove all the yahoo stuff I see. I don't want anyone stick search bars, companion software etc on my system. It only confuses the issues since there are so many problems with hijaakers in search tools. If someone is having problems and nothing seems apparent other than a load of Yahoo stuff. It may not be to bad an idea to dump it. It can always be reinstalled.

  18. alanc

    alanc MajorGeek

Agreed. I've been reluctant to advise folks about it without some info to back it up, and clicking on the link takes you to what appears to be a genuine Yahoo search page.

But if it were to 'appear' on my machine I'd dump it in a hot minute. ;)

  19. rice56

    rice56 Private First Class

so get rid of all the yahoo stuff in the log? because comp is still slow, but better than than it was before

  20. alanc

    alanc MajorGeek

    It's just the red.clientapps.yahoo..... lines,
    the R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/ line is OK.

Yeah go ahead and 'fix' those lines. HJT makes backups of what it fixes in case you decide you want them back, and it will reset your search pages back to MS default - easy enough to change whenever you want to.

    ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    still slow as hell.
maybe i need a new browser or uninstall what i have now?
both of which i dont know how to do

  22. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

Okay maybe we need to start at the beginning again.

    First get Ad-ware & SpyBot S&D from here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/showthread.php?t=26149

Download, install, and most important UPDATE them. But do not run them yet.

Now go to Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, General tab, and delete cookies, then delete files (select delete off line content too when window pops up with choice).

Then run Ad-aware and most important UPDATE it first. Now let it run a full scan and clean what it finds.

Now run SpyBot S&D and most important UPDATE it is first. Now let it run a full scan and clean what it finds.

Now make sure you shut down all applications (especially internet explorer) and run a new HiJaak This scan and post the log.

No! To hard to read that way and cannot cut & paste lines. When you run HiJaak This just click the Save log button it will bring up Notepad with the running processes and the other info in it. From Notepad, just highlight everything and hit CTRL-C. Then open your Message window and paste in in with CTRL-V.

Looks good Rice. There are a few other harmless items that many of us prefer to remove. But they are more a matter of personal preference and what you may need to use on your computer. If I were you I would just leave them alone for now. The items I'm referring too are:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
