IE Script Error Problem

Recently I began getting an error message everytime I click on a link or go anywhere from my home page. The message I receive is:
    Internet Explorer Script Error
"An error has occurred running a script on this page"
    Line 2
    Char 7
    Error- Invalid character
URL - (whatever url I am visiting)
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

This happened with IE ver 6 so I upgraded to the IE7 Beta version and still have the same trouble.

I have already tried uninstalling IE and reinstalling and still have the same problem. My service packs and updates are current and I'm running XP Pro.
I've been told this may be the maiden4biz maleware but I did the scan with Bazooka and could find any suspect files in my registry.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

    Thanks - Justjim

Sounds like you need to reinstall Windows Script.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp

If that dowsn't resolve the issue then do the following:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

When you return to make your next post make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)

Thanks for your help. I followed all of your directions and still have the problem. It took me a couple of days but I've run all of the scans for maleware and virus and even Bazooka which shows is have something called Exploit maiden4u.biz (I can't get rid of the either), I still have DLSearchbar.asp and the ever present Internet Explorer Script Error "An error has occurred running the script on theis page".

Below are the scans for BD, Panda and Hijack this. Can you let me know if you see anything I need to modify? I will probably have to back everything up this week and reinstall XP and all other pograms to get rid of this stuff since I can't seem to find the problem files that show up during the scans or get rid of them.

    Thanks - Justjim

I posted my logs into the body of my message which I was not suppossed to do.
I have no "button" under manage attachments to allow me to attach a file.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this so I can repost correctly?
    Thanks

    Can't Attach Attachments to Message

By mistake I cut and pasted my HiJack This and other scan results to the body of an earlier message today which I was not suppossed to do.
When I tried to post a reply there was no button for "manage attachments" under the advanced mode button therefore I cannot upload and attach the file.

Can someone tell me what the problem is.? I have the pop up blockers turned off.

    Thanks - Justjim

Scan with HijackThis and fix the following:
Open Windows Explorer and delete teh following:
Follow the procedures in this article to fix your scripting error. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306831

    Reboot

    Post a fresh HijackThis log.

Again, I followed your directions. However, I was only able to find/repair a couple of the items you told me to remove in HijackThis.
As far as the removal of th4 items using Windows Explorer I was able to remove biK.inf and Antivirus Test Online.url. I did an advanced search/find for the others and could not find them,

Here is the new twist -
If I open IE & beta directly from my desktop I have not script error. If I open if from Outlook I get either the script error message as before or a runtime-do you want to debug error message.

Should I try to uninstall/reinstall IE again to see if it will work from Outlook?
    Thanks again - Justjim

PS, the new HijackThis log is attached.

From looking at your HijackThis log, this does not appear to be a malware problem.

Uninstall IE7 Beta, and see if that resolves your problem. If you continue to have problems you should seek support in the software forum.

Thanks so much for your help. I'll play around with this for a while longer and see if I can fix it. Glad to know that the latest log didn't show any maleware problems thought.
    Thanks again.
