I know most MG members use browsers other than IE but I thought you guys/gals might want to know that Microsoft is testing IE addons that block some of Google's tracking policies.

A quick test ( I added all three lists) looks like they might work similar to adblock does in FF and other browsers, as far as user experience in cutting down on excessive ads is concerned.

As others have said, there is no such thing as real privacy on the web but might be worth a look since there are times when IE must be used.

Might have something to do with this: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012...plorer-foils-privacy-settings-microsoft-says/

    Clash of the billionaires. :-D

For those of you who use IE9 as your main browser, there's also an Adblock list from: http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/ie.html

I have that also in IE9 in addition to 2 others mentioned in the link by sach2 and seems to work well.

In addition to Adblock Plus I use Ghostery to block scripts from companies that I don't want tracking or sending information about me back to the website. Ghostery

    Works with:
    • Firefox
    • Safari
    • Google Chrome
    • Opera
    • Internet Explorer
Note: Ghostery will block certain elements on web pages like the Facebook Social Plugin, Disqus, Google +1, Twitter Button and so on. If you are visiting a website and think there is content not showing that should then go into the Ghostery settings and unblock or Whitelist whatver you want to show.

I had tried Ghostery before at oma's suggestion and found it blocked the comments on one of my favorite sites. I had added several addons the same day and found ghostery the culprit so just uninstalled it.

I just started using it again about a month ago and figured out how to whitelist certain elements on sites, like disqus and the one causing me trouble which was js-kit (used for commenting on a blogspot site). Just click on the ghostery icon and you can allow any of the elements it finds for a given site. Easy. It is now one of my favorite addons.

Ghostery is easy to control, simply uncheck the 'block' for the comments site (Disqus?) and refresh the page.

Agreed that Ghostery has made some very good improvements over the last few updates. Now its one of my favorites.
