    Hi
    I have a friend that I am trying to help. He stores his URLs in wordpad. When he clicks them they no longer work. The IE window opens but the message at the top says "Not Responding" We have dumped his cache and temp files.
    If he opens IE first and clicks then sometimes it will open a new window.
    We have reset IE back to default settings, even downloaded IE 9 Beta..and it still doesn't work.
    He has Windows 7 Ultimate

    Oh we tried making firefox the default and it seems to work but not all the time.
    We have run all sorts of malware and antivirus software and it finds a few things but even after clearing them it still doesn't help.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

  2. Open your Note pad copy and paste and edit this in it....
    Code:
    <html>

    <head>
    <title> favorites </title>
    </head>

    <body bgcolor="white" text="black">

    <h1> Link Lists </h1>

    copy and paste the link list here - where I'm typing right now :)
    in this format
    <a href="http://www.websiteX.com">
    WebsiteX</a>
    <a href="http://www.websiteY.com">
    WebsiteY</a>
    <a href="http://www.websiteZ.com">
    WebsiteZ</a>

    </body>

    </html>

    when your done save the file as Links.html and open it with your browser and then make it your home page and it should load all your favorite website at the click of a mouse ;)

    Thanks 01 for that information.
    But, he is not looking for a way to change 'his' system....only how to get IE to open links when he clicks them.
    Any other suggestions?:

    Oh updated... we ran housecall from TrendMicro and it showed 10 object, 4 of which it said it did not clean. We rebooted and ran Vundo Fix and it found nothing. I don't know what to think because it did not fix it
    Thanks,

  4. did you do the read & run from the malware page?
    you should open a new post in that section and post your logs.
    happy Holloween!

    Hi gofergal.
    I may have had the same concern as you. For example in the "Interesting Website Links" forum here, I could open all the threads but none of the links in the threads. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to another site from here, but this worked for me.

    • Hi,

      I followed a tip given by Pbell on this forum. Originally, it was made to resolve problems on IE8 32 bits when you use a 32 bits OS. I changed "%ProgramFiles(x86)%" var, and now my issue is resolved for IE8 32 bits on my Windows 7 64 bits. Please try it, and tell me if everything work for you.

      For Win 7 64 bits :

      1 - Create a new notepad document and paste this text :

      @echo off
      echo.
      echo IEREREG Version 1.07 for IE8 27.03.2009
      echo by Kai Schaetzl http://iefaq.info
      echo installs and registers (if suitable) all DLLs known to be used by IE8.
      echo should only take a few seconds, but please be patient
      echo.

      2 - Close all your IE windows and processes.
      3 - Save your document on your Desktop by example, with the .bat extension. Right-click on it, and select "Run as administrator".
      4 - Test if this tip resolved your issue by openning IE. If you use a Windows 32 bits version, please replace %ProgramFiles(x86)% by %ProgramFiles% in your .bat file.
