IE won't launch

Hey, all. Thanks for your continued help!

User installed a downloaded 2 year upgrade copy of Norton. IE wouldn't launch afterwards.

I uninstalled Norton and have been through the usual hijackthis routine.
Installed Windows defender. Ran sfc. Still no IE.

What next?

I would start by running the Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT) here, http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4749

See if IE connects ok.

Hmmm...I don't have an SP2 cd - just the original XP. So, the tool keeps requesting files I don't know where to look for.

Gave it a good go, but it wanted files from too many optional places!!

To run sfc /scannow (note the space after the c and before the /) ...put your cd in the drive and exit out of the setup screen ... then go to run and type sfc /scannow.

I'd tried that last night, and tried it again with the windows cd. It runs for quite a long while...then after the progress bar gets to the end, just disappears. No "done" no nothing.

Yes. that's what it does. Just closes. Where you able to run IEFix completely, and did it help you?
