I would like to find out how to reset my Windows browser please. I use a home made computer that runs Windows XP Pro...Anytime I am online and on a web page, if I want to open a second browser window it will automatically close my first window! It will not let me open multiple windows at the same time...
Even if I hit my explorer button on the task bar to open a second window at the same time ...it will ALWAYS close the first window. I did not used to have this problem and I do not know how to correct it, nor what caused it... so if anyone knows I would be eternally grateful! honest :) Thanks, Dedee

We need to investigate a little further ....so tell me what happens when you open your browser to a page and then hit control + "N" keys.

OK I did as you suggested but it did not help :-( any more ideas? I am at my witts end on this one! I may have to just reformat and hope that helps... I am a bit worried about reformatting though because it seems when I bought this copy of Windows XP Pro evidentally I was sold a PIRATED copy! :-( Now I am wondering if I try to reinstall it if it will still work? :-( I need to buy a new one but I just can't afford a $149.00 right now, ya know...anyway...thanks for your help...Dedee

Do you have yahoo companion installed?

If so, remove it, then try to open a new browser window.

No I do not have the Yahoo Companion on my computer.

Tonight I have also tried to go back to a restore point when I knew the computer was working well. It would not let me do the restore to a different point. It didn't say why...just said that it couldn't do it.

I also tried going to system but nothing there worked either...

If you have the Yahoo Toolbar uninstall it and try IE. If not, try the steps below.

    1. Quit all programs that are running.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
    4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):

    • Shdocvw.dll
    • Actxprxy.dll
    • Oleaut32.dll
    • Mshtml.dll
    • Browseui.dll
    • Shell32.dll

Windows XP and Windows 2000 only
Restart the computer to enable the changes to take effect.

Well The problem is FINALLY solved!!! A member on another list sent me directions on how to disable all my add-on browsers! And that did the trick! I am back to normal now!! Yippee!

I am listing the directions in case this problem arises again:
    open browser
    click on tools
    click on manage add-ons
you will find a list of add-ons
highlight each add-on (I had to do them seperately)
    then click [] disable box
then go to the next one and so on until you have disabled all of the add-ons listed.
then close the browser and re-open it
try clicking on your browser then try opening another browser page. Wa La! You have fixed it!! :)

My many thanks go out to ALL of you wonderful people who tried to help me clear this problem up! I am very grateful for ALL the help I received! You ALL are the GREATEST!!! Hugz, Dedee
