I am running a 1.9GZ system with W2K. 512 MB Ram,80GB HD. I decided to upgrade my browser from IE5.5 to IE6. Everything went fine but I found that it was crashing all the time. What was even more frustrating than that, was that when I was in Windows Explorer, it would seem to crash for no reason. After I uninstalled IE6 and went back to IE5.5, I have not had any problems. I did the upgrade about 4 to 6 months ago. I have alwas kept up with all the updates and such for W2K as well as driver updates, etc. Is there any real advantage such as security that I should try to make IE6 work?

    Thanks,

    David

He'll have to come back and answer us but his first question was regarding the advantage of trying to upgrade to IE 6 when he has little problems with IE5.5.

Yes, he can come back and ask about using another browser...just do a search here on Major Geeks for Mozilla or firefox and you'll find plenty of info, David.

I have IE6 and don't have those problems. What is your Operating System? I'm wondering if something else has been configured (or not configured) when you upgraded that is causing all these problems?

I am running Windows 2000 pro. The biggest frustration is having windows explorer create an error and close. I am not sure what configuration issues you are talking about. Is IE6 any more secure or have any other features that I need. I do keep up with all the critical updates.

    Thanks,

Sorry, I guess I meant your IE settings (Tools, Internet Options, then all those settings on those tabs).
This site:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx says: Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1) is the latest version of Internet Explorer. ...includes a full installation of the Web browser and the most recent version of Outlook Express, the e-mail client that is included with Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer 6 SP1 is the most recent version of the Internet Explorer 6 core technologies in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional. Internet Explorer 6 SP1 provides a private, reliable, and flexible browsing experience for users of Windows XP, Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), Windows 2000, Windows 98, and Windows NT® 4.0 Service Pack 6a....

issues fixed takes you to a list of what was fixed (I'm assuming from IE 5.x) and corrected in IE 6.
The "issues fixed" link is probably what you're looking for.
