I still have IE6 and some sites are telling me they do not support my browser.
    Which would anyone recommend?

As said above, have a look at all of the browsers on the market (IE8, FF3.5, Opera, Safari, etc) and see which one you prefer. There are no "safer" browsers, as Halo said, the safety of a computer system is down to the user. Some browser may be faster, but they all have different layouts and you would be better off picking the one you like best.

    Re: Browser

This post is very similar to one that I just posted in the IE8 thread, so I apologize in advance for the similarity -- but I think it's important to look at the features of the browser before you make your decision, because it depends on what's important to you!

To me, I think IE8 trumps the other browsers in many ways, and here's a list of SOME of the features: the Compatability View feature (which is reason enough, on its own, to use IE8), its Webslices, the new Tab features (including Tab Crash Recovery protection), the enhanced privacy browsing features, the new VISUAL search feature (not to mention IE8's Enhanced Search and Search Suggestions), the new Favorites Bar, the ability to not only increase the Zoom level of every page -- but that IE8 SAVES your customized Zoom level, so that you don't have to increase it EVERY SINGLE TIME you go to a new page or screen -- PLUS of course, the 100 or so different customization and options settings IE8 offers (including the new Developers' Tools), the tons of IE8 Add-Ons and Accelerators, and probably some of the most important items, the multitude of impressively improved performance, security, and stability features, including ActiveX support.

    Re: Browser

Just so you know, I have never heard of any conflict issues arising from having several browsers installed. You can safely try several and if you don't like one uninstall it or just delete the shortcut from your desktop and not use it. Leaving it installed will not cause an issue and you will have it available if you want to give it another try later.

The only browser that must remain on your system is some version of Internet Explorer. Don't try to delete IE if you find a different browser you like better.
