Hmmm... something must be specifically blocking these sites. Try this:

Go to Windows explorer -> c: -> windows -> system32 -> drivers -> etc and click on the file that says "hosts". Normally you will get a popup that asks you what program to open with ... choose "Notepad" or "wordpad". When you open this up, do you see any of the internet sites you have problems with listed?

My first thought would be spyware...do you have this problem with any other web browser? -Have you run the basic AntiSpyware apps recently (ex: Spybot Search and Destroy, and Adaware)?

I have ran Spybot and Spy Subtract and it says I am clean. I tried looking in C:/windows/system32/drivers and I had no "hosts" file? Any other suggestions? thanks

Look in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drivers\etc for your hosts file.

Well, if you have Spybot installed, you can open your hosts file directly from Spybot. Go to the mode menu and make sure advanced is checked. Then go to the tools tab on the left side. Then double click "hosts" on the icons listed on the right. There you will see any items that would be in your hosts file. Let me know what is in this list if you can.

This one is indeed troublesome. Do you have your Windows XP handy? If so, you can try a reinstall of IE by trying the following:
