IE6 not opening web pages. Dicky modem replaced a week ago allows me to connect to internet but still unable to open 90% of sites. Can receive and send email. No viruses or spyware etc found with Spybot, PCTools antivirus. Have been searching internet for options but no luck so far.

Any suggestions gratefully received but please note - blonde on this end!

Can you give some few examples of the websites that can open and those that can't open, if it can open some and can't open the rest, then their could be some problem restricting some sites from being accessed. Check on your Modem settings, there could be some site that are restricted either by URL, or by Word phrase, (am guessing)
    but not IE6,
Download Mozilla Firefox browser and try using it. if it works well then the problem could be IE6 but if it has the same behaviors then check your Modem(router) firewall settings again.

Have any of these sites dropped support for IE6?

Is your modem active before booting?

Can access eg: iprimus, ibm, modzilla (trying to access mozilla) and some forums but not this one. Currently using old iMac to connect to web. Also forgot to mention - browser begins to load then hangs and times out or indicates fiinshed loading but no web page.
