Discussion in 'Software' started by christopherjellybean, Oct 21, 2008.

  1. I just reinstalled XP again and did all the updates except SP3. Everything seamed fine then all of a sudden sometimes when I close a tab about 50+ start opening and freezes my computer.I have AVG and spybot and neither show anything and I did Bitdefenser online-Trend Micro online and Kaspersky online scanners and they showed nothing other than cookies. I read some other post here about it but no answers yet.but htey were kinda old.Anyone else have this problem? Fixes?

did you try using ad-aware from lavasoft? its very powerful and useful... (www.lavasoft.com)

make sure when ur scaning for malware, that the restore is turned off...

Usually all removals of either virus or malware require u to turn system restore off , because the malware can return once a user have restore his system settings....
But to each his own, if u find it to be bad and not working for you...your choice.

well usually the windows would have a restore point prior to the removal of malware.
Windows itself does it every few days, so even if u turned it off, it never takes the possibility to restore for good, u can still restore to a functioning state.

the reason why I am saying to turn it off before removing it, is that if u remove it, restart pc to test, the malware might find its way back in and harm the pc...so u would think it didnt work, and u would be stuck in a loop.

I never insulted anyone with my previous post, i am an IT professional just like most of the members in here, and i have removed successfully my share of malware, telling me to follow the rules in here is totally ok since its probably the rules in this forum, but attacking me in this offensiveis not acceptable, i find it disrespectful.

In any case, its ur choice if u wish to show respect to new helpers or not, and i will consider this conversation as if it never happened, because what matters is ppl getting help by the end of the day.

Not to belabor the point, but from MajorGeeks Malware Forum (Chaslang's guide):

While you may not agree with it, it is the procedure that is followed at MGs (the only one). Chaslang and the other experts in there are some of the best you can find. There are many ways people go about cleaning infected machines, some are good and some are not so good. Thousands of people come here for malware help and there is a reason for that.

    As Mark said:

That statement is the most important, and is taken very seriously here...as you may have noticed. ;)

Help in any other areas is welcome and appreciated very much, by both the owners of MajorGeeks and those you help. :)

sorry for bad mood yesterday, but it was a terrible day, and receiving an attacking reply got me a bit over the edge...

appologies to MG members, and i will do my best to keep the procedures in mind.

    Cheers
    WK
