Xp updates are up too date, would booting in safe mode with networking (as administrator) help to install. Tried installing with virus prot and firewall disabled. Same problem

I ran into something like this when I installed Beta 2. it turned out that my copy of Webroot Spysweeper was stopping it from making the necessary changes. If you have anything of that sort running that is supposed to protect your system from things being installed that shouldn't be, try shutting it down long enough to install IE7 Beta 3.

yeah i did have spysweeper on there at one stage but uninstalled when I started running nod32. will make sure there is no residual crap laying around for spysweeper. have already run ccleaner so i would have thought that would have gotten rid of any leftovers. i also have ad aware on there but i wouldn't think that would hinder install

Its a Beta, leave it alone if it does not install properly on your system. Only an experienced user should troubleshoot and its best to wait till the Final Release is out.

Thanks for the advice people, took my own advice and booted in safe mode with networking. IE7 beta 3 installed and working fine.
You were right Sidecutter one of my old spyware progs or even NOD32 had restricted my account from making registry changes. Booted in safe mode as administrator. cheers
