I downloaded IE7 about a month ago or so and have not had a problem with it until recently. First thing to happen was that I lost the toolbar that says File, View, etc. Then the coupon bar my mother uses disappeared. Now I cannot even download anything. I went to one website and changed some registry keys that it recommended (yes I kicked myself in the head for not remembering the site). Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

I have tried that and it still does not have the toolbars. I also tried going back way before the initial download and that has not helped either.

Also, any link I click will not open. No tabs, new windows, downloads, etc.

there should be a tools button
that will allow you to turn the 'menu bar' back on

tools also has a 'toolbars' section should have mention of the 'coupon bar'

theres also a 'diagnose connection problems' button in there - havent tried that one yet though.

As to why these settings have changed by themselves (if it is them) ?????

Would it not be possible for someone to download the IE7 install and mail it to me as an attachment? Then I could reinstall it and see if that would fix the problem. Anyone willing to help me out with this? I will supply email address if someone can send it to me.:)

Can you right click just above the TABs and choose Menu Bar?

    http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/1476/untitledwx5.jpg

Also if you can get to the menus click the Tools > Manage Add-ons and disable tham all, to see if you can get back some functionality, if so then re-enable one at a time until you find the culprit.

I would upload or send you IE7 as I already have a download of it for XP but my ISP speeds are like dialup today so it would take ages to upload at 1kb/s

Have you tried another browser to test if you can download anything?

What is the "coupon bar"? That can't be good. ;)

Try removing/uninstalling the Coupon Bar and see what happens. Be sure to restart.

U can pm me w/email address if you still need it when you get back online.

Also, I did check for malware with Charter's stuff and SpyBot SD. One item was found by Spybot. I had it removed. I used system restore to go back in time (in between some of the earlier posts) and found Elvis on the can...I mean the coupon bar returned. Still not able to right click anything other than maximize, minimize, restore, etc Cat, you can reach me at this email address, and no I am not worried about posting in here since it is an address I rarely use, in case any others want to play around with it. shawnwest_2@lycos.com

Thank you for your help everyone, especially Cat..and the version is XP SP2. If at all possible I could use the IE 6 download if it is not a pain in the arse. No worries if it troubles you. Thanks again.:)

The message and attachment were received as a link and cannot be opened because of this problem. I do not have any right click functionality for some reason so I need a way to get the file saved on my computer without using File or any right click menu options. This is starting to seem a little hopeless.:cry

    Hi again comperroruter,

Nothing is hopeless, there is a solution, someone will come up with one :)

I don't understand why it came as a link, someone smarter than me will know. I know I sent as attachment and looked at file size to make sure it was ok.

Are you still on IE7? have you tried uninstalling 7 and going back to the last version of 6 to see if it's more stable?

Another idea, do you have a friend or neighbor close that has a high speed connection, you could download and save to cd, then try to install it to your pc.

Another idea, do you have any of those free ISP cd's, some of them have IE on them, Note: you can't install a lower version over a higher version, pretty sure of that. (you can't install 6 over 7) you can go higher but not lower usually.

If I put the file somewhere for you, I think you will have the same problem downloading it.

Please note I'm only a lil geek, so don't do anything until a MG says it's ok. they might see problems in my suggestions that i don't see.

    Regards,

    Peg

Try the steps below and see if IE7 functions ok.

    1) Click Start to bring up the Start Menu.

    2) Go to All Programs > Accessories > System Tools, and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons)

I am having the same problem as COMPERRORUTER. Where do I Start? Well, first I deleted some programs through the control panel (Windows XP Pro). After I deleted the programs everything was working fine. A couple of days later i decided that i wanted my old toolbar back so I did a system restore. Now??? Everything on my system works fine. Except when i try to download ANYTHING from the internet ie.. Programs, Software, email attachments , Printing ETC... One thing that does concern me is that from my control panel I can't access my Internet Options I am totally blocked out. This situation has me totally stumped.. I don't want to have to reinstall XP and lose the Info on my System. Does ANYBODY have a solution for me or has anyone heard of this problem before? PLEASE HELP !!!!
    :cry

I know you're both frustrated, but in order to help you, you have to give some more info.

The forum can't see your computer, does not know what you have downloaded, installed, uninstalled or changed on your pc.

They can only give u general answers because they do not have enough info.

I find usually when things go wrong it's because of something I did  . If I retrace my actions I can find enough info to get a solution.

    @love
    1. What did you have installed on ur toolbar that u wanted to get back?

    @ both of u

    2. What programs did you delete?

    3. Have u used any advanced software? like anti spy, Trojan hunter, root kit ...? If so what software?

    4. Did you change anything on ur pc, settings etc.? If so what did you change?

    5. Are you getting any error messages, if so, what is/are Exact error(s) and when does it happen?

    6. Did you try the online scan?

"Bitdefender" in 6A of Read Me

I'm not sure what the moderator will do with this, most likely merge it, since it's the same problem...then go play w/t kitty canon. :)

Wheew. So here is what I came up with (By pure luck i might add) I deleted ie7 Through control panel >> remove programs>> Remove ie7 >> restart computer. I checked my computer a little while later And noticed that I was able to Delete my Bulk mail from the folder which I couldn't do earlier, I tried to download an e-mail attachment and it worked.:D I read yesterday on Majorgeeks.com about the shareware Malware removal software, which of course I couldn't download because of the internet issue i was having. So I hurried to top freeware picks and downloaded Ad-Aware Se Personal, Ran the scan and this is what came up under (Registry Values Identified)

    FAVORITEMAN

    :wave to "FAVORITEMAN"

So I am not sure if it was the ie7 or Malware "FAVAORITE MAN"

I do not wish this situation on anybody it had me shaking in my boots. I could not afford to lose the data on my computer system.
So all in all I hope this info can help somebody out there and I'd like to thank everybody for thier quick responses. Thank You, Thank You. Thank You, very much.

You can get the menu back by right clicking to the space between the tabs and the home button and then selecting "Menu Bar" or hit the ALT key to temporarily show the menu bar.

With regards to your toolbar, you may have to uninstall/reinstall your toolbars and be aware that some toolbars are malicious and can do damage to your machine - so you should only install toolbars that you trust. you can see what is loaded in your browser by going to "Tools -> Manage Add-Ons -> Enable or Disable Add-ons"

If you still have issues - note that Microsoft provides free phone support for IE7 users.

http://www.microsoft.com/ie/support (click phone support to the left to see the phone numbers)

@ Snotty, Hi n welcome to MG's :D , please see message #21 in this post, part of the problem was there was no right click function.

True - the ALT button should do the trick through - allowing you access to the "View" menu and then access to the "Toolbars"

I have to ask - does the right click work outside of IE7?
