    HI,
I am having a problem with internet. First, i am on a home network and all other machines connect / run fine. I try to get on Google, Yahoo etc.with IE7 and after about 30 seconds, the status line says "Connecting to google.com" and then says "Done" on an empty screen. Using FoxFire i can go anywhere, but it takes 30-45 secs for the screen to pop up. This started happening while i was on a clients network, and thought it was their issue (they have lots of controls and filters). I uninstalled and reinstalled my NIC and have the same symptoms when i run wireless. I reinstalled IE7 - no change. Interestingly, when in SafeMode, the IE7 still doesn't work but FoxFire is snappy - hence i am thinking it is a software / malware issue.

I scanned with my TrendMicro and found nothing but minor cookies.
Using your suggested Malware removal tecniques, i ran SuperAntiSpyware, nothing noteworthy. I could not run SpyBot because it couldn't connect to the internet during the install (trying to find updallocate.asp?? then goes back to previous screen and won't proceed). I ran everything else. and have attached the MGTools results. I hope you can find something i can fix! Thanks very much for taking the time to do this. I am 7 hours into this now...

Re: IE7 not working-FoxFire does but slow - MSCONFIG missing

More - Security Settings is blank in Internet Options - nothing shows.
MSCONFIG is no longer "publically" available - i need to go to ..\PCHealth\helpctr\binaries to run it.

You need to attach the below 3 other logs that were requested:
    • SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Malwarebytes
    • ComboFix
Based on your logs, you did not even install Malwarebytes. You need to install it now and run it and then attach the log.

The SUPERAntiSpyware logs can be found in the below path:
    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\dbd\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\Logs\"
    supera~1.log Sep 16 2008 1592 "[B]SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log - 09-16-2008 - 12-33-48.log[/B]"
And your C:\combofix.txt log will have to be ZIPped to attach because it is very large ( 825144 bytes to be exact). It is this large because you never uninstalled it from previous times that you have run it many months ago and the snapshot information is now huge. ComboFix should be uninstalled after using it.

    Thanks ChasLang!!!

I am sorry i goofed on the instructions!! - i had no internet access so had to run on another machine and cut and paste and copy files to the network and try to piece it back together. It was a bad day....

I had to to restore from a ghost and reinstall things since then as I needed to get this machine back to work. It was definately something i picked up from my client as they had issues the day before i was there and after. (nice of them to tell me, eh). Two days wasted...

Thanks for telling me bout ComboFix - i had no idea.

I really appreciate the help you guys provide and i only ask when i'm desperate. I will try to be better prepared the next time (hope there isn't one, but i have this machine in a lot of places and something sneeks by once in a great while)

    Sincere thanks!

    You're welcome.

You should now check out the below:

How to Protect yourself from malware!

Also if your image still had ComboFix on it, you should do the below.

Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
    • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
    • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    • Delete the C:\combofix folder if it still exists.
