    Hi there.

I hope someone will be able to help me with my problem. My dad recommended this website for any issues I can't find a solution for myself. Usually I'm pretting good at solving my own computer problems, but this one has got the better of me!

Until a week ago I was getting a script error message every time I was trying to use Facebook's chat system. This had been going on for a few months.

Error message: "A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly".

The options were to click 'Yes' or 'No' to stop the script that was running slowly.

Clicking 'Yes' made everything work fine again for a while and I would be able to use Facebook Chat, although the message would appear again every so often.

If I clicked 'No' then the message would keep reappearing instantly until I clicked 'Yes'.

Facebook was the only website this happened on.

Eventually I got sick of seeing it so I found this Microsoft webpage which offered an automatic solution and a manual solution.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/175500

So, I downloaded the small 'automatic solution' application, it ran on my computer and then it told me it had successfully completed and all I had to do was click the 'Close' button. There was no need to uninstall afterwards since it didn't actually install in the first place.

This automatic fix solved my problem with the error message whilst on Facebook.

However, now what happens is when I've been on Facebook for about 10 - 15 minutes, IE8 will completely freeze and not respond. I can close IE8 very easily and restart it, but I want to stop it from freezing altogether.

It's especially annoying when it freezes and I have lots of other tabs open.

My computer (it's actually a laptop) is kept very 'clean' all the time. I use CCleaner very often and know how to use it properly. I have no viruses or spyware/malware either; I use Avast Antivirus, a-squared and Windows Defender regularly.

    CPU: Intel T9900 @ 3.06GHz
    RAM: 4GB Corsair DDR2 800MHz SODIMM
Graphics Card: 1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 230M
Hard Drive: 160GB SERIAL ATA II 2.5" (7,200rpm)

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and Internet Explorer 8.

Try running IE8 with no add ons. This is under start>all programs>accessories>system tools, and you will find Internet Explorer, No Add Ons. :wave:wave

I've just tried going on Facebook with IE8 (No add-ons) and it still freezes after a couple of minutes.

All other websites work fine in the normal browser, just so you know.

Hey. I've been trying Internet Explorer 8 64-bit and it hasn't frozen so far.

The only thing holding me back from using the 64-bit browser is Adobe because they still haven't released a 64-bit flash player.

Unfortunately, the 64-bit IE8 also froze after a while of leaving it on Facebook.

I reversed the fix by deleting the DWORD under the key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Styles

Now the error message comes back again, but at least IE8 doesn't freeze and I don't have to restart the browser.

I think that by applying the fix it's allowing the 'slow script' the error is warning me about to continue running and so is making my Internet Explorer 8 unresponsive.

I'm wondering if there is a way to automatically abort the script without IE8 prompting me every time it starts.

This is exactly what the error message says:

    "Stop running this script?

A script on this page is causing your web browser to run slowly.
If it continues to run, your computer might become
    unresponsive.

    'Yes' 'No' "
