IE8 won't install

Greetings Everyone,
I could use some help. I am running XP SP3 Microsoft Windows Version 5.1 Build 2600.xpsp.071130-1427 : Service Pack 3, v.3264. I'm trying to install Internet Explorer 8 and I'm not having much luck. I have IE7 installed now. Every time I try to update to IE8 it doesn't download and I get the error "Internet Explorer installation did not complete." and when I install "Update for Windows XP (KB932823)" I get the error "KB(32823-v3 Setup Error, Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying. There is no need to install this update." I have reformatted this computer, installed service pack 3, then installed IE8 without success. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your response.

 

are running this from windows update? you might have better luck with that.
