IE9 to IE8 ?

Just bought a Dell comp with Win 7 and explorer 9 already installed, trying to remove IE9 and replace with IE8, my work and wife's comp uses 8 and I like it better.

Been wandering the web and can come up with how to remove it..I think, but when I try to install 8 the comp says no, maybe because 9 is still installed or ???

I'm a little leary of removing 9 before I know how to get 8 installed, can anyone help??

Also have a lost password for Outlook express if someone has a resonably easy way of retrieving that?

    Thanks much.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Greetings, AllenW, and welcome to MajorGeeks...

I guess you could try MS KB 2579295 and then Download Internet Explorer 8, but frankly I think you're asking for trouble - I've never seen this procedure work correctly...

For one thing, virtually all of the IE9 uninstall routines assume that IE8 was loaded beforehand, and that the IE9 was an update that can be reversed - which is not your case...

    Good luck! :major

Thanks for the greeting, long time sporadic member, just keep forgetting my log on..:)

Ya, I run one suggestion that had me uncheck IE9 and check 8, but there's no 8, so I'm leary of deleting 9.

Anything drastic happen if I uninstall 9 and there's no 8?

    Thanks all.

I don't doubt it, but the win7 comps at work here are running ie8

What happens if I uninstall 9 and it don't work?
    Can I re-install 9 or another broswer?

    Thanks on the password site.

probably because they are older. I'm not sure when Windows 7 computers starting shipping with IE 9 instead of IE 8. Probably sometime in the first 6 months of 2011. I bought my 7 netbook in August and it has IE 9 installed as the default; there is no IE 8 to downgrade to.

    Makes sense, thanks.

Take a look at your Installed Updates. If you find Windows Internet Explorer 9 there, that indicates your system had IE9 before that update and you may be able to go back to IE8. Conversely, if you don't see IE9 in your list of Installed Updates, I would view that as an indication your system originally had IE9; therefore, you can not go back to IE8.

For instructions on how to remove IE9, see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/how-do-i-install-or-uninstall-internet-explorer-9

    No 8 only 9.

I might try uninstalling 9 then copy and paste 8 and see what happens, I installed Google Chrome and like that better than 9 so worse case I'll use that.
    That should work, I think.

    Thanks for the help.

Finally found my list of passwords so I have outlook running now, least that's going right..:)

Don't spend too much time on this.

Starting January 17th, Microsoft began pushing out IE 8 and IE 9 to all customers through Windows Update.
So you will continually get IE 9 pushed at you, if you run IE 8 on Vista or Windows 7.
(Only XP will not get 9 pushed because it doesn't run on this OS).

I'd like to install 8 but haven't figured out how to get around MS and 9, I'll keep trying but starting to get used to Chrome so who knows..:)

    Thanks all.

Other browsers, such as Firefox and Opera, are also available and are good alternatives to IE.
