IExplorer.exe MBR fix bootkit not working

    We'll i've seen all the threads about this MBR virus, since i cannot use bootkit remover for i have GRUB boot-loader for dual booting ubuntu. Is there a way to fix the problem without changing my MBR to windows?

    I'm capable of getting rid of this problem using the solutions from previous threads, but since i have GRUB as my boot loader its been a bit tricky.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Sine this multi-boot type systems are not things we deal with on the malware side of the house, they are rather unfamiliar to us since we don't use them. It would be best if you asked questions in the Software Forum or at a GRUB forum to find out whether it is okay to run a command that fixes the MBR with a standard Windows MBR. My guess is that your MBR is likely not a standard MBR and you need to find a utility to rewrite the MBR for the dual boot type system you have. Hopefully it can be done with out reinstalls of each OS.

    Since the infection eminates from the infected MBR, it has to be fixed in order to fully remove the infection or it will just keep coming back.

    Are you saying you already fixed it?

    I took your advice and just proceeded with bootkit remover which changed my MBR to windows. And i've followed other solutions from the previous threads. So far so good, everything is clean :D. I just wanted to see if there was a sol'n with with other boot loaders, so i had to bite the bullet and just proceed when you said there wasn't.

    I found out that i can restore GRUB without re-installing ubuntu, so pretty much all the fixes here were perfect and i have seen no problems with my computer :D
