If software firewall on, no internet connection

I recently uninstalled Comodo firewall. I was not able to use Comodo with my Lexmark scanner no matter what I tried. I followed all the instructions for removal of the firewall from Comodo's forums and even added some of my own, to get it off my system.

However now I have a dilemma. If I install any software firewall, those firewalls will block internet access. I do not think they do it on purpose, but rather as something nasty left behind from Comodo. Before I installed it, I had no problems with other firewalls, in fact I had ZoneAlarm installed. After Comodo, if ZA is on, my internet is blocked, and I cannot unblock it from within ZA. I also tried PCTools' FW. If it is loaded, no internet. Exit, and I have internet again.

For the record, I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32, running on an AMD Dual-Core Athlon with 4bg ram. I also have a Router, but want to be able to block outgoing as well.

I read something about having to install winsock for XP, but the suggestion did not work for Vista.

By the way, I asked on the Comodo forums, but they just seem to want me to reinstall as their solution.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

actually, that one does not work for me, I tired it. Nor does it solve my problem. I have been able to use Sunbelt's PF however, but it does not explain what Comodo did to my system which stopped zonealarm from working on my system either.
