THAT came from a priest? Holy cow! Where's HIS faith.....

  2. Burning_Monkey

    Burning_Monkey MajorGeek

Well, I did say that I had asked several priests.

His answer was more on the type of lifestyle that I had lead before, and a remark on the fact that I probably wouldn't be very high on the list of potential prophets. :)

I think I am up to 8 commandments broken at this point, but really don't see the need to go for all 10. And no I am not going to say which 8. :D

  3. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

Only 8 huh? Many people (myself included) couldn't say that :)

I like to think that it is not the actions of the past that define a person, but how they act in the present. Given the right motivation, people can and do change. The problem is that change is some times unpredictable and not always for the better.

I think I changed for the better though. :)

Well...I personally have never killed thy neighbor and I've always (even in rough times!!) honored thy mother and thy father!! Other than that...I think I probably fall in the bucket with a majority of other sinners!! Unfortunately!!

Not meaning to get into a ministry here, but just simply stating a fact...

In reference to the above quote...that is why you have the option to repent your sins, and straighten up and fly right and try make something better of yourself!!!!

Atleast that is the way I translated the teachings that I recieved growing up!! However...not unlike many...even though I still consider my faith as strong or stronger than ever, I still tend to fall off the wagon from time to time!!

Murder isn't on my list either.....but, oh boy, sometimes people can act in such a way it drives you insane.....

a zebra gets to the pearly gates and is informed by st peter that everyone who gets to heaven is allowed to ask GOD one question, and only one question. st peter warns the zebra that GOD's answers can be a bit obtuse, so to be careful to phrase the question clearly.
"oh, thats easy' said the zebra. 'i only have one question to ask, and its a simple one. am i a black zebra with white stripes, or am i a white zebra with black stripes?'
'well that sounds straightforward enough' replied st peter ' just go through that big door over there and you will find GOD waiting for you'
the zebra did as he was told and sure enough there was the creator sitting on a magnificent throne. he smiled benevolently at the zebra and said in a loud but strangely soothing voice 'hello, my friend zebra. i understand you have a question for me?'
the zebra, somewhat emboldened by the welcome, nervously replies in a small voice, 'yes your magnificence. i just have a small question....i have always kind of wondered...if you don't mind me asking...am i a white zebra with black stripes, or a black zebra with white stripes?'
'oh, my dear zebra' GOD smiled, 'you are what you are'. at which GOD disappears. the zebra, now confused and just a little irritated, returns to st peter to complain. 'st peter, you told me that GOD would answer my question, but when i asked he answered in a riddle'. st peter, looking amused, asked the zebra what GOD had said. 'he said "You are what you are"' replied the zebra.
'oh, thats easy than...you are a white zebra with black stripes'.
the zebra, more confused than ever, asked st peter how he could possibly know that from the cryptic answer that GOD had given him.
st peter, laughing, replied ' my dear Mr zebra. its simple. if you had been a black zebra with white stripes GOD would have told you "Ya is whatchya is!"

Trials make you stronger. God's building up your muscles. ;)

My oncologist chose to up the dosage on one of my meds, one that stays in the system for about a month, and it's apparently too heavy for me. Haven't had a decent night's sleep since a week ago last Thursday, plus headaches and joint pains. Missed work yesterday and today because I'm too flat wiped out to function. He's prescribed stonger meds to help me get to sleep at night, but that didn't help last night, so we're upping the dosage tonight... we'll see...

Tell yourself what I tell myself: This too shall pass. In the mean time.....

    Hi there,

I'm in it with you. It doesn't seem that life is showing only the sweet face to all of us. When I posted my question, you Lev, told me to read the Bible. And actually that's pretty much what I'm doing right now. I'm in the middle of a study of the Book of Psalms. And this morning has been devoted to the so called Songs or prayers of lament. That made me open my eyes and say to myself. Is this some kind of coincidense or is it just You?

But just for your knowledge life is still making wonders at least that's what I and we hope. In some six weeks my wife and I hopefully become parents. But I guess we can't take anything for granted until it is here. Seems to be like that with life. Pretty vulnerable.

G.T. and Lev, thinking of you as God is doing ever more than I can imagine of.

I'm sure I'd blow it because I'd be so so chuffed to really meet the Big Boy .. I'd say "G'day mate, How're ya goin' "? and he'd say "Oh, Just fine"..

  36. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

I thought about that after I posted......maybe it is me that needs the holiday and not God. Maybe I need to relinquish control a little more and give Him room to do His thing........

    Interesting, thanks Gary :)

  37. G.T.

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

Likely so. There are always some things we're concerned about where we can DO something to help. There are also a lot of things that are beyond our help or control, such as your friend in ICU after her surgery. To worry and fret is very human, but worrying and fretting doesn't help anybody, and it can grind YOU down. When they come to mind, whisper a prayer for them, then firmly put that concern back on the shelf and leave it in God's hands. That's the best you can do, and it frees up YOUR time for things you can actually deal with, like making the best of the time you have with your kids right now. Priorities are good for your sanity. ;)

Very true, Gary :). Sometimes we need to just lighten up and concentrate on what we are able to control Otherwise, one day we may find us with even less than we had before we started beating ourselves up over it. (Yeah, including me.)

Hopefully, the new medication doses will work out better for you. You know your always in my thoughts and prayers. And, no I definitely won't get "mushy". LoL! Though I do get bet rather concerned about ya at times ;).

Why did you create humans if you knew we would betray you?

May I, for just a moment, see all things as you do?

I think my second question would answer my first ^^

*gulp*....you just never know huh? Maybe there IS a reason I'm not able to drive around today.

Sometimes it would be really interesting to see an "action replay" of your life if you HAD done A,B or C instead...kinda like those books we read as kids where you could chose the outcome of an action and turn to a certain page to read how the story went with that specific action taken into consideration.

Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream...merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream ....

We seem to forget that we're in a movie theatre watching "our" movie ...our soul is just sensing all that transpires on the screen.

Sometimes it's close enough that we actually get to see it. Some years back, I was sleepily on my way to work in my little Ford Escort, on a two lane rural road when an impatient fool in a large pick-up closed up behind me WAY fast, and whipped around me JUST in time to screech to a halt for a red light at a major highway intersection. I sat there glaring at his rear bumper for a minute, the light turned green, we both started moving, and BLAM... loud noise and the truck disappeared. Someone had run the red light at probably over 60 MPH and both were a fair distance down the highway. If he hadn't passed me, it would have been me down there, and I'd have been the smeary center in an Escort sandwich. I've been a lot more attentive in intersections since that day.

You never know why some things happen but there is always a reason. My family and I have all been saved by minor things that happened that kept us from doing soething. A good example is, before I was born, my granfather was far north of where my family lives (Texas) and he was supposed to fly home on a midnight flight, but as he was getting ready to board he collapsed from exaustion and had to be taken to the airport infirmary. He decided to stay overnight, and because he did he lived. During flight the plane lost control due to engine failure and crashed, very few people were killed but his seat and the adjoining ones were sucked out of the airplane at about 10k feet. I thank God daily that he saved my grandfather, and I also pray that the families of those lost have peace.
