Never drink still water....for one reason.Or water that stays standing for long period of time.CO2 Gases get trapped under the layer of water. And when it is moved it will release all CO2 at one time.If you go into mines and such like that it can reach dangerous levels.

We have county water which is the same water as town water it just travels a ways to get here. It cost around $25 a month. The water we drink and make ice with runs through th filter on the refrigerator. The warning for new filter is factory set to 6 months. It makes no difference how much water runs through it because it will happen every 6 months and cost $50 to replace it. I find it flustrating that it does not measure actual gallons used instead of months.
Sometimes we get a letter in the mail saying on such and such date the water tested above the acceptable level for drinking. Of course the dates have passed before we get the notice so it's to late.:( We keep bottled water but wonder about it being pure. We are thinking about the cost and benefits of a filter at the sink instead of the refrigerator.

We have town water and although it is very clear it has the horrible chlorine taste all year round and in summer the chlorine is the strongest.
To counter this we have a triple filter with its own tap on the kitchen sink and another triple filter on the fridge for the cold water and ice maker. The filters work really well and the quick change cartridges make it really easy when it is time to change them.

These are the water filters we use and they pass the Australian Standards and filter down to 0.5 micron which is really good. They come with a nice ceramic disc tap which matches our regular sink taps and includes everything you need to connect them up and ours came with a spare set of cartridges.

These are the filters we had at our old house and they did a good job for 6 or 7 years until we moved last year.

The old filters only filter down to 5 micron and you need to have the special spanner to undo the filter housing. Of course, you put the special spanner in a safe place and it is so safe you can't find it a year later when it is time to change the cartridges so you try your multigrips and find they don't quite open far enough so you then buy another special spanner and after it arrives you then find the old one.....yes this happened lol......
When you change the cartridges over you need to wash out the housing and replace the 'O' ring seal otherwise it can leak.
The new filters you just turn the water off and release the pressure and twist out tho old cartridges and click in the new ones and after turning the water back on and purging the trapped air you are good to go for another year to 18 months.
We change ours when we notice the flow rate has reduced and this maximises cartridge life which can be up to 18 months. Even with the reduced flow rate the filters are still working as you still can't taste or smell the chlorine and the water still looks really polished and clear.
When we were looking for water filters there were plenty of other brands but most were more expensive or the cheaper ones didn't conform to Australian Standards so couldn't be connected to mains water. Water Circle brand seemed the best value for performance and we have been using them for about 8 years without any problems.

I've been drinking the city water in my home for 30 years. I also am not having the house tested for Radon, which is prevalent where I live. Why you ask? The gentleman who built our home, lived here for over 34 years. He moved to a retirement community at the age of 92 (he looked to be in his 70's) and died at the age of 103 in good health!
