If you're using a cane or crutches in winter...

This is the third winter out of the last four I've been on crutches, and I just discovered a thing I really wish someone had told me existed before now...ice tips! They clamp on to a crutch or cane, flip up when not in use so you don't screw up your floors, and flip down so you don't break yourself further when you're walking in snow and ice.

I love them. Found mine for $21.50 for the pair including shipping online (they run $7-$9 each, sold individually), which is kind of pricey but still way cheaper than slipping and falling when I'm already broken. I figured I'd share in case any of you are in the same boat and no one told you such a wonderful gadget exists. :)

Nice. And they could be used as a defensive weapon in a pinch. ;)

LOL They are unbelievably pointy...my poor fingers needed a bit of break after installing them and figuring out how to flip them up and down.

What a great invention. I've never been on crutches, but would imagine getting around in the winter in cold snowy areas would be a huge challenge.

I was thinking the same thing as Fred on the defensive weapon. Kinda like James Bond, or Maxwell Smart...or somewhere in between. LOL

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Was that a great show, or what? We used to howl at some of Don Adams'/Barbara Feldon's/the Chief's antics - good, good stuff.

Luck with the crutches, Tibbs - sooner or later some good karma is going to befall you. It's got to even out sometime! ;)

From your mouth to god's ear. ;) Bilateral pulmonary embolism (five days in the hospital), torn cartilage in my knee (surgery), gallbladder attack that led to pancreatitis (two separate hospital stays for a total of 17 days, surgery), surgery on first one foot, then the other...the last few years have been ridiculous and I am DONE with it! :crybaby I own three pairs of crutches, a walker, a surgical boot for each foot, two canes and a bathtub chair. :banghead

But...these crutch tips are fabulous. I just wish I'd found out about them when I screwed up my knee. :-D As my friend Carlos quotes on a daily basis, "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..." ;)

What a useful tool. I've had to use a cane more than once, and often in winter weather . . . these would have saved me a mishap or two. Nice!

Sorry to read of your many trials . . . I agree with Caliban. You are due some good fortune! I hope it finds you soon.

This last time in the ER, when they showed me the x-rays and explained how badly I'd broken my foot, I asked them to just put me down like a horse. LOL

You can either find something to laugh about, or you can shoot yourself in the head. It's become something of a running joke among my friends and family that I seem to be able to go a maximum of six months without something else happening. Bubble wrap suits have been suggested. :-D
