I have been following this post http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44525 but the post date looks a little old. I have updated XP to service pack 3, installed SunJava, but have questions about my software combo that I would like to use. Here is my proposal,

    Avast!
    Superantispyware
    Comodo BOClean
Comodo Firewall or Online Armor Firewall
(All of the above are free versions)

Will these work at the same time within reason of performance?
Is Comodo BOClean good, worth it, or even necessary?
    Superantispyware runs continous protection, correct?
Comodo Firewall or Online Armor which is the overrall best choice in terms of coverage, frequent updates, and system usage?( I realize system usage might be a case specific to the OS and computer hardware, just looking for a general answer as I have never used any of the listed programs.)

Sorry for so many questions. I ran Norton for two years, but I'm utterly sick of its' bloated mess.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to look at the date it was last updated not the date the thread was started. It was updated as recently as today and is frequently changed as necessary.

SAS will have no effect on performance since it is only an after the fact scanner unless you purchase it which is highly recommended. Comodo no longer has just the firewall. It is a full security suite and it can be quite resource hungry as can the Online Armor Firewall which is also really a full security suite as mentioned on the download page. But the free version of Online Armor has much less in it then the paid version. See this:

You should re-read the How to protect thread which was just updated to mention this information. Quite a coincedence that I came accross your post a short time later. :)

You need antispyware protection and this is one type.
No! As stated in that thread, you need to purchase it to get protection.
I guess you are not reading all the info in that thread after all. They were listed in order of performance and this was stated in the thread. Your other questions were also addressed there.
