    Nope, chewed through a 2686.
Got to get my Ubuntu running now, that's this weekend's project.
Although I have been toying with the idea of dual booting. I've got some free space on a drive which I might partition off for an experiment since this lowly folder can't get one of those 2600K's yet.;)
I might just leap-frog that to an E but that's awhile in the future whichever way I go to upgrade.

I run Ubuntu 11.04 in a VMWare 3.0.0 on my main rig, the 930 and find it works quite well, way better than in W7 even with the extra overhead of *nix in a VM.

Bah, lost track of time.;) Don't bother dual booting if you want the use of the W7 at the same time, you'd need a dedicated 1.5 gigs of RAM, probably less but that's what I got, Ubuntu has never gone to the page file yet from what I can see.

It's my best setup as I want W7 usability but with *nix performance(or real close to it) for the fold. The 2600K is running native *nix. I was lazy not to make my 2600K my primary machine but the 930 works just as well for what I need. LOL, how much power does one need to surf or watch videos eh?;):-D

Well, finally got my VM set up with Ubuntu 10.10 and don't you know I pulled a 2684 right off the bat.:(
I had a problem remembering the correct path for HFM to monitor the VM but got that straightened out too.
So it's off to the races with the fold.:)

Well, at least you got a -bigadv right off the bat.:) Good show! What, about 32 mins. per frame?

    Don't I wish. Remember this is just a 950 @ 3885 Mhz. About 46 to 48 min/frame.
It makes the deadlines with the 2684 WUs but not a whole lot of leeway left to play with.

I must be mistaken then, I haven't been keeping tabs on my production.:-o My 930 and your 950 are basically the same when OC'd to 3.8+ gigs.:)

    Welcome back! :major

It's good to see the production of our fold.

I've seen a few bare bone i7 systems (includes mobo,940 cpu, heat sink,fan,12GB ram) on eBay I've been interested in,but $425.00 each is not within my grasp at this time perhaps tax time?

seems like a good deal, though I'd have to purchase at least a 650 watt power source and case.

    fold on

Well this has been a crappy week.
CPU overclock blew up. (Well, it was my fault for trying to reduce Vcore.:-o)
Comp locked up on what I thought was a stable OC.
Comp blue screened with a clock interrupt fault on another would be stable OC.
VMware player errored out with some garbage about a faulty installation.

So, this weekend will be about a complete do-over for folding.rolleyes

    You're fine Spock96.
I got a little too agressive with trying to get my temps down lower.
Tweaked it just a tad too much and blamo, all sorts of problems.;)
