I'm building a new machine...

I'm just looking for some opinions from everyone. I'm looking to build a pc for myself. I'd like to make it with an AMD chip probably a triple core. I've never tried overclocking anything and would like to try with this one, so something that overclocks well is a must. I think it would be nice but not a must to have a board that supports AM3 and DDR3 for future considerations. What do you all think would be a good CPU/MOBO combo? I'd also like to keep the cost of this down too!

when going with AMD the BE or Black editions of the processors are the best for overclocking because they have an unlocked multiplier. Im getting the Phenom II X4 BE and i dont even need to overclock that but i might anyway

 

Firstly I would steer W-A-Y clear of AMD tri cores they are awful perfromace wise :-D

Secondly as Nimda said what you will need is a Balck Edition CPU when going for AMD as they have unlocked multiplyers and when it comes to overclocking the mutiplyer is a pretty important feture.

Thirdly AM3 is only AM3 as far as motherboards are concearned, basically the AMD Phenom II 955 is an AM3 cpu but it does work with AM2+ motherboards along with DDR2 memory. If you want to go AM3 some day I would suggest getting the AMD Phenom II 955 BE (AM3) and sticking with an AM2+ motherboard as you can always upgrade the motherboard & RAM to AM3/DDR3 when you want. Backwads compatability is only in the cpu not the motherboard.

It's good to see you are interested in AM3 though, alot of people tend to stay away of new technology just like 64 BIT OS's.
