Just have not been sleeping at all the last two nights....

No caffine, or chocolate, or anything else that would keep me up... I'm just up:mad:

Anyone else a little sleep deprived???

Yep. Chemo keeps me a bit tired all the time, and I REALLY pay for staying up too late.

@G.T. - just a suggestion, but a friend went thru this with very positive results ....she went to someone that does a "system flush" ....I'll have to speak with the wife as to the exact term, but it saved her life!!! It removes toxins in your system and is very beneficial for those on Chemo. I don't know where you are ....but could look aroung for you as to a referral.:)

I'm tired too...up to 6 hours a day this week at work. Yesterday wore me out. My husband and I had to go to his co-worker's funeral. He died last week of a massive heart attack on the job (logging in the woods). My husband gave CPR and mouth-to-mouth, but it was too great an attack. The funeral lasted 2 hours on hard wooden upright church pews. After surgery, that was just too much for me and I spent the rest of the day laying down. Today I am really tired still....and it's only Tuesday!

I'm somewhat skeptical, but willing to look into it. See if you can get more details on what it is. And what the friend had whose life it saved.

@G.T. We (my wife) has a friend that she sees who does colon hydrotherapy (but can't think for the life of me what they're calling it...)anyway, the friends mother went into remission (also don't know what kind of cancer) and father was seriously relieved of the side effects of the chemo ....my wife goes on occasion ...It does purge the system of toxins that build up over time. I'd highly recommend looking into it. Where are you that I may research or see if we can network a contact?

I'm lucky to sleep every second night, and when I do, I wake up every 1.5 hours like clockwork.

Memphis Tennessee area, but I'd just as soon research it online first.

Never mind; I found it. Just hadn't heard that term for it. Also called colonic irrigation, high colonic, probably other things. Been around a LONG time, and has been conclusively proven useless, sometimes harmful, and in a few cases, fatal.

I'm sure those you know are sincere, and I sincerely appreciate your concern and offer to help, but this isn't the way to go. Please excuse the somewhat derogatory site name; I don't want to offend, but the information here is exactly what I've read about it over the years.

@ G.T. ..... with all due respect and sincerety, I pass these along only as an alternative to consider (I myself have no experience, only my wife and her good friends), in an effort to be of some help to you ...I am not proselitizing ( where's the spell checker) ....
Looked at 50 pages of search and only found four negative references all from the quakery site ....
There is a M.D. in Memphis ....degreed from UAMS in Little Rock:

LOL. Maybe a Magic Flute? :D I appeciate that. :) Everyone wants a magic bullet for what ails them, me included, but magic bullets are pretty scarce.

There IS info out there, but like most fads, those pushing it are far more vigorous on the internet than the more traditional outlets. Here are a few, one from the American Cancer Society. There's more out there, but these will do.

Re G,.T:- Well, I think keeping up with plenty of fluids, and thus tending to help in toxins and waste product removal direct from the bloodstream would be more useful than the colon cleaning bit. Keeping up with fluid intake was one of the things I had to watch, when I, as you know, had to go through the 'chemo' treatment path, years back.

Re: Sleep: (Or lack, thereof) I've always been pretty 'hyper', mentally and as a consequence, not slept that much. Chronic stresses of life's circumstances and a few physical aches and pains, just add to the problem. I am trying to establish a better sleep pattern, but I've found trying to 'fight' and make myself sleep, just makes things more stressed and worse than ever. At least I get a lot done, I suppose. <shrug>.

i have taken up yoga. i have been sleep deprived for years due to a non-healing fracture in my arm. as i move around in my sleep the pain will wake me. then i spend hours (or what seems like hours) waiting to go back asleep, only to wake again what seems like minutes later. sleeping pills make me 'foggy' in the morning, and i cant be having that as i rise early to take my boy to a school. so i could only take sleepers fri and sat night. eventually my dr put me on a mild antidepressant, which, although it doesn't make me sleep through the night, seems to enable me to drift back to sleep quickly each time i wake.

since taking up the yoga i have noticed a remarkable difference in both the quality and the quantity. i feel more energized during the day. i am slowly, almost impercievably losing weight and gaining strength and supplety.

this is a particular form of yoga called 'kundalini', and is a much more active workout than most, but i appear to have the last CD of it in the whole world. GT i would give this a try if at all possible. it cannot cause harm and the effects on my general well being have been startling.

if anyone is interested let me know and i will send more info. my aloha to you all. happy wednesday.

lb4 generally there is a cause for insomnia or a bad sleeping pattern, you have a stressful job, course work or learning thats playing on your mind... ie. brain in overdrive!

do you have night sweats, broken sleep?

    you seen doctor?

I have had vicious sleep patterns over the years, only reciently that I have startd to get slightly better sleep, mosty bad sleep down to my brain being 110% active thinking about work and the amount of information and learning I have to do in a short period of time, basically brain doesnt stop thinking.... trust me booze dont work either!

You should never watch TV while laying in bed.

Bed should only be for sleeping (and sex :) ), and you should only try to sleep when you're really tired (and don't nap during the day as that stuffs up your body clock).

If after a while you can't, you shouldn't lay in bed trying as that trains your brain in the wrong manner.

There is a new group of drugs that are extremely effective that have just been released for chronic insomnia.

They aren't related to benzodizapines like Serapax or Valium, and aren't sedatives, so they aren't addictive, and you don't feel groggy the next day.

I would give anything to be able to sleep like how I used to, but sadly that will never happen to me. :(

I would'nt worry to much - as long as you are not doing speed or coke - your body will eventually force you to sleep. Try avoiding the usual - caffeine, etc., and don't use alcohol to get yourself to sleep. Try to establish a regular schedule for sleep if you can, and if possible get some mild exercise - walking or an easy bike ride. Good Luck !!!!

Edit: the new sleeping "pill", Rozerem, acts at the melatonin receptor, and provides a normal sleep pattern, and is non-addictive.

I don't need to see anyones Biochemical Basis.

I've been living it for years.

I don't need experts in theory, who have never experienced it, to tell me otherwise.......

Have you ever had a sleep study done ?

    No, I haven't.

I used to be sleep like a baby, that was till a motor vehicle accident.

Since that day in 1999, my life has never, and will never be the same.

Sorry to hear that. My wife had a sleep study done about 2 years ago, which resulted in a diagnosis of sleep apnea. She used a CPAP machine for a couple years ( until just recently) until she was able to get her weight down, which helped to resolve the problem. Sometimes, there is a solution, and I did not intend to minimize the severity of your sleep problem.:)

That's OK, and no need to be sorry.

I understand for most there is a solution. I'm not in that category sadly.

They've learn't, and are learning, a lot lately about the intricacies of the human body.

Unfortunately, go to a doctor, and he/she will probably try to prescribe you a sleeping pill instead of dealing with or isolating the cause.

    Night sweats yes...
    Broken sleep yes...

    Doctor, no...long boring story...

I do lift weights, bike ride, and walk/run...

Just seems like every couple of months or so, body just decides to go into over drive and stay that way until I'm completley drained...

I don't fight it, just whine about it after the first couple of days...

Saturday night I couldn't sleep at all..finally did at 7am. I think it was a mixture of excitement from that day (graduation) and thinking about so many things. But at least the following night I slept really well. :)
