This is Gary's sister Carol again. I did not leave as planned on Tues. Gary went back into the hospital Tuesday morning. Dad is also here. The cancer has grown at the base of his skull (explaining the increase in neck pain) and they are looking at radiating that spot along with the other radiation treatment Gary had mentioned to reduce the bone pain. Gary rested better today - a lot of sleeping and less pain. They changed his pain meds. We have another close family friend that will join Dad on Monday to help with Gary's care and I'll return to CA for now.

I'll pass on your good wishes & prayers to Gary. I'm sure he'll be back on line when he's able.

I send you my warm wishes to join with all the others you've been getting. Cancer sucks. No other way to put it. Nerves do heal, but slowly, so be patient. I'm glad you have help with some of your paper work and so many people who care about you. I'll be sending you some of my strength, but it will be hidden in glasses of water, so you may not be able to see it. Nevertheless, I hope this will help you regain enough strength so you can travel. God bless you.

Carol......Thanks so much for updating us on Gary.
I am sure our little group here is not one of the most important things on your mind, but Gary is a very important part of us. He is a wonderful caring man and we worry about him and how he is doing.
Gary.,.....my thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone else connected with you. Was looking back at some old threads the other day, and came across the poem you wrote a while back. I printed it out and saved it.
Get some rest, but get back to us soon.

I had not noticed before that Gary named the hospital and location where he was. I'm assuming he is at the same one, Think it would be alright to send a card or something? Some hospitals won't even admit the people are there so I'm guessing calling first would be of no help.
Need guidance here, somebody. Carol is probably gone also, think?

Gary's sister once more.

Just wanted you to know that last night I printed out all of your messages to take to the hospital for Gary to either read or have my father read to him. I'm sure your kind thoughts & prayers will be an encouragement to him. We're waiting to meet with the radiologist to see when they can do the treatments that should attack the latest cancer pressing on his neck & his increased bone pain.

I'll be leaving this evening for CA, but we have a dear friend arriving this afternoon to help our father & Gary navigate the medical system. Our first prayer is that Gary can get back on his feet & resume his life & independence. If not - our next prayer is that he can travel to CA to stay with us for a while. We have a comfortable home where he'd have his own room & private bath....not as ideal as being in one's own home & independent - but certainly better than in a nursing facility where we can't keep a daily check on his care from CA.

Thank you again for your support and kind messages. Cards to the hospital are fine...I imagine he will be there at least the rest of this week.

Thanking you, once again for the update on the situation, Carol. You and your family been a real Godsend to Gary, I know.

Gary, my hopes, thoughts and prayers are that this latest round of treatments my eliminate, at least the worst of the problems, so that you can return home, and maybe even to work eventually (part-time, maybe?), and of course be able to communicate directly with us, via the forums.

You are indeed blessed with a wonderful, caring family, and many very close friends. Although I haven't met you personally (yet), I still regard you and a true and loyal friend over the past five years or so I've been talking with you. As you said, we do have a somewhat kindred spirit in a lot of ways.

Dear Gary,

While I do not visit the MajorGeeks message boards frequently, it was upon my log-in that I first checked on your health status. It troubles me deeply to know that you're in such pain, but as I reflect upon my past here, I remember that you were always the voice of wisdom responding to my youthful, angst-ridden posts.

Believe it or not, you kept me grounded for my primary developmental years. When I stepped out of line, or said something purely emotionally driven, it would be you who stepped in and set me straight. Your thoughts rang true not only on these message boards, but also in the real world. I would not be the man I am today without your wisdom and insight. Though I only occasionally frequented these message boards, your intelligence and wisdom has been a positive force in my life.

Thogh my post is brief, and my intentions are difficult to decipher, please know that my thoughts are with you and your family, as yours were with me when I was but a troubled youth. You are a great man, and I wish the Grace of God upon you.

I wish that this message board could, at least partially, convey the emotion I am expressing here in my apartment at this moment. Then again, the internet has always been emotionless, when only text is involved.

It's been a while since Eric and I have popped in, but we think of you often and you are in our prayers. Kolya was asking for you just last week and prayed for you that night at bedtime. We hope to see you back around soon and echo Eric's (Gott's) words of how important your wisdom and clarity of communication has been to us as well. This was our first message board, and you were one of the first people we "met" on the board (as well as later on in person!). You have always been an amazing example of how to express your opinion clearly and with respect for everyone around you. We've taken that with us wherever we go IRL as well as on the internet. In short, we're better off for knowing you. Keep fighting the good fight.

Although I haven't known you very long, I found you to be a very special person in that short while. I want you to know that you are in my prayers daily. I pray for comfort, strength and healing for you. I'm sure you are a blessing to those around you, just as knowing you is a blessing to me.
