I'm hungry

I have an ultrasound scheduled for 8:00 tomorrow morning. It requires fasting for 12hr before. Hey, no problem I'll just eat a HUGE greasy meal at "the last supper" and that'll do me 'til morning. But wait, no fat allowed in that last meal. No problem, a salmon filet (ladies portion, grumble grumble) and I'll fill up on vegetables. Have you ever tried to do this? Sure you feel kind of sated when you leave the table, but an hour or so later when you've past the twelve hour deadline...your hungry again. And that was three hours ago. So I figured, I'll take up smoking and chewing gum to curb the pangs. Wait! No smoking or chewing gum after midnight. That's only an hour away. Time I get to the store...forget the cigs, look at the donuts on the shelf, the chocolate bars on the rack, the bacon in the freezer. Crap!
I almost forgot, I can't even have any of the drinks being served over in the Favorite Mixed Drinks thread.

That sucks. It's always those times that you're not allowed to do something normal that you want to do it the most, I've found. If it were me, I would have loaded up on plenty of alcoholic drinks or maybe a nice couple doses of Nyquil before the deadline so that I could pass out and not be tempted so much :p

All the best with your tests buddy :)

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of ultrasound requires a 12-hour fast beforehand? (Feel free to tell me to mind my own beeswax, ain't no thing.)

I've had abdominal pain since May and almost full time, sometimes debilitating since late June. The previous ultrasound they looked for hernia in my groin, this one looked for intestinal concerns, or gall stones or whatever. I haven't seen the Doc since, but I was tipped off that it showed nothing. I assume the fasting is to keep digesting food from messing up the scan, but I don't know what fat has to do with it. Anyone know? I wish they'd find something, because I can't lift anything bulky or weighing over 30lb. Well to put it in perspective, the backyard wedding we were at two weeks ago, all the guys were setting up stuff outside, I was inside doing dishes!!!
@Lev, yeah I know all about that. I had to get drunk by myself each time my wife was pregnant;) :D

I've been through a lot of tests in the last 10 years, I've never had one that you couldn't have any fat for your last meal before fasting. I'm clueless as to why.
And it's unlikely you have hernia or gall stones (since you heard your tests are probably negative)
Have they looked into diverticulitis or kidney stones? Those can create abdominal pain and last days on end.
Hope they find out what your problem is, and that you feel better soon! :)
