I'm Infected and Have Logs

    Hello, first off, thanks for taking time to look at my situation. I just finished running the XP Cleaning Procedure and there were potential threats found in the scans. I have followed the procedure to the letter and have all the log files requested (attached). Now I just need further instruction on what steps need to be taken to clean this up.

    One thing that the logs might not show is that I'm having issues connecting to any Google website via Chrome, but can load them in Firefox. Also, after running Mbam, while trying to save the log file, my computer started acting very funky, ie. not allowing me to type in a name for the log file and then shutting down the computer all together. Not sure if this is suspicious behavior or just my computer being old, but I felt it was worth mentioning.

    Thank you again for your time and I hope we can work together to get this cleaned up. :)

    Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode. Any other mode is primarily used for troubleshooting and diagnostic purposes. You should look into some third party software to control start up's.

    Re run Hitman and have it remove all that it finds.

    http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/9659/rktigzy.gif Fix items using RogueKiller.

    Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7/8 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    When it opens, press the Scan button
    Now click the Registry tab and locate these detections:

    • [PUP] HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{3c471948-f874-49f5-b338-4f214a2ee0b1} -> Found
    • [PUP] HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{7B089B94-D1DC-4C6B-87E1-8156E22C1D96} -> Found
    • [PUP] HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{BF7380FA-E3B4-4DB2-AF3E-9D8783A45BFC} -> Found
    • [PUP] HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{E15A9BFD-D16D-496D-8222-44CADF316E70} -> Found
    • [PUP] HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F1AF26F8-1828-4279-ABCE-074EF3235BD7} -> Found
    • [PUP] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{bf7380fa-e3b4-4db2-af3e-9d8783a45bfc} -> Found
    • [PUP] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{F1AF26F8-1828-4279-ABCE-074EF3235BD7} -> Found
    • [Suspicious.Path] HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-515967899-1123561945-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run | QNB2EB90WX : C:\DOCUME~1\balance\LOCALS~1\Temp\Mkq.exe -> Found

    Place a checkmark next to each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.

    ....and the same for this entry on the Web Browser tab please...

    • [PUM.HomePage][FIREFX:Config] 568ky5s7.default : user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://search.conduit.com/?ctid=CT2786678&SearchSource=13"); -> Found

    When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
    Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

    Give Ccleaner a run, not the registry scanner, just the cleaner itself to be rid of a chunk of temp files.

    http://imageshack.us/a/img841/7292/thisisujrt.gif Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

    Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running!

    I'm just about to run to dinner, but will follow up as soon as I'm back. Thank you so much Kestrel, you rock!

    Ok, so I ran all of the scans/fixes but some items weren't in RogueKiller that were there before. The KernelMode rootkit website [link] popped back up after running RK too, so not sure if that's still an issue or not. Thank you again for helping with this. I know you're probably cringing at the fact that still use XP, but I can't afford a newer system at the moment.

    Well that's a good thing isn't it? :)

    Re run RogueKiller once more and attach log.

    Yes, I suppose it is a good thing xD dunno why I put a meh face at the end. Thank you so much for helping with this, computer seems snappier and less boggled down when booting. I have to mention that my anti-virus was way way way out of date and I couldn't afford a new NOD32 subscription. Looking through the forums here I found that 360 Total Security was suggested for XP machines, so I've installed that and run some scans/done some update patches to XP that were in dire need of updating.

    I really hope this doesn't throw a monkey wrench in the works... Anyway, RogueKiller log is attached as requested. After running the scan it's still taking me to that KernelMode rootkit page, warning about potential keyloggers. Not sure if this is just a "feature" of running RK or if RK found something that potentially is a keylogger.

    The log looks good, nothing bad showing. Ready for final steps at this point?

    Yep, looking like Conduit is gone, hopefully for good :) As soon as I can afford a new computer, I'm gonna ditch XP for good, but that's not going to be anytime soon. So let's work on the final steps ^_^

    Excellent. :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Once again, thank you Kestrel, sincerely! I feel a lot better about the health of my PC now that we've finished. I'll do my best to keep on top of the scans/updates and hopefully won't have to make any posts in the malware section anytime soon. You're the best!
