It has taken me 2 days to run all the items in the malware read this first posts, but I believe I have made it through. I was hoping that would fix everything, but alas, it did not. I am posting the reports as requested in the Read this first guide.

The computer will be VERY slow to move the mouse or anything, once the windows desktop is showing. After it has been on for a while, you can get on the internet and it will act OK, it is always slow if accessing items on the laptop or programs on the laptop. I believed it was a program hogging all the resources until I ran the items this forum suggested, and now I know I have some issues. The last online scan found items that were not cleaned and I need to have help I believe.

Everything worked as explained in the Read this first post, except that I had to run the panda scan in regular mode. When trying to run in safe mode, it kept having an explorer error and needing to close out.

Thanks in advance for all your hard work (just putting the guides together!!) Please look at the logs and help me out.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

All of your slow down issues may not be due to malware. However let's fix what we see and take it from there.

First I have a question. What are the below for?

    C:\Program Files\ITE\GPIOManager\GPIOManager.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Molly\Application Data\U3\0000187E7A616BA4\LaunchPad.exe

Do you have some kind of Mini USB camera that they are related too?

Why didn't you run CounterSpy as requested and attach a log from it?

Also you should have uninstall this Viewpoint Media Player (Remove Only) in step 0 of the READ ME. Uninstall it now.

Now run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger.

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6FDCDB59-C547-4B32-9FC3-8C721E768C53} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sys61710272007.exe] C:\Program Files\SnackMan\sys61710272007.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [IoqsRSjme] iyuemui.exe
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
    O9 - Extra button: Ebates - {6685509E-B47B-4f47-8E16-9A5F3A62F683} - file://C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.htm (file missing) (HKCU)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
    Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. Avenger
    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 8 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

OK,I think I have done everything. I don't know how I missed the counterspy thing the first time.....sorry

I am attaching the 4 files you asked for and was able to do everything except the hijack this delete of hkcu....messenger\msmsgs.exe but I am hoping that is because I ran the program to delete messenger before I ran the HJT again.

The computer is responding faster after it restarts and windows desktop becomes available, but it is still slow on a restart. The last restart took about 3 minutes (it was not the restart after running the avenger - that took much longer, but it was running the program) It just seems to start windows and then take a long time before the desktop appears and the hour glass goes away

    I appreciate all your help!!

You still have not attached a log from CounterSpy. Please attach it. I need to see this log before continuing. Your other logs are clean now.

I did a quick reply and forgot the other attachment sorry. Here it is. Also, When I turn the laptop on now, it seems to get to the desktop page quicker, but when I click on an icon, the icon disappears from the top to the bottom and then re-appears, but does not load the program it should start, until serveral minutes later. I left the laptop on (unplugged from the internet) and after about 20 minutes, when you click on a desktop icon or the start button, it will act normally and open the program in a reasonable amount of time. Hope this helps with the troubleshooting. I am using another computer to upload to and read this forum since the laptop is so slow

You logs are clean so your problem are more than likely not due to malware. They are more likely due to what you are running. Let's take a few more steps.

First uninstall the CounterSpy trial now since we are finished with it and it fixed all that it found. It will also add to your slow down.

Now let's use HJT to remove a few unnecessary startups which will also slow your PC down.

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DellSupport] "C:\Program Files\DellSupport\DSAgnt.exe" /startup
    O4 - Global Startup: Kodak software updater.lnk = C:\Program Files\Kodak\KODAK Software Updater\7288971\Program\Kodak Software Updater.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
    Now reboot in normal mode
Now attach a new HJT log.
    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

    Have things improved at all?

The overall system performance has gotten better. It still has something going on when it first starts up. I have to let it sit on the desktop screen for a full 6-9 minutes before I can click on anything. I tried after five minutes to click on Word and then Internet explorer becasue nothing would open, and finally Word opened after doing a "wipe" down the entire screen. If I let it sit for 9 minutes, then everything will work like it should. Here are the logs you asked for. Can you think of anything/program that would cause that long of a delay? I am going to remove kodak easyshare software. I have been trying to delete any program that is not essential. I can load photos straight from my camera to my computer without easyshare, so I will try that, but if you have any other suggestions I would appreciate it.

Yes! Your Symantec software has been known to be a massive resource hog. Try uninstalling ALL of it. Make sure everything truly gets uninstalled. Check your logs after uninstalling and rebooting to be sure it is all gone. Make sure the Live Update program and service is gone too. Symantec can be as difficult to remove as malware. If uninstalling it, fixes your problems, then replace it with a free antivirus and firewall from the below thread:

How to Protect yourself from malware!

    Other things to question:
    1) I still see EasyShare
    2) Why do the below have to run. Is the activation.exe process really required for MS Money to work?
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MoneyStartUp10.0] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\Activation.exe"
    O4 - Global Startup: Photo Loader supervisory.lnk = C:\Program Files\CASIO\Photo Loader\Plauto.exe

I uninstalled kodak easy share and symantec. (symanctec locked up for about half an hour trying to uninstall all, and I had to reboot and manually delete some files...ugh) but the system is running great now. Thank you Soooooo much.

I installed AVG's free addition, and all os well again

You're welcome. Did you take look thru new logs from ShowNew and HJT to make sure all Norton and Symantec stuff is gone. It rarely uninstalls cleanly. You may even still see some services (O23 lines in HJT) trying to run.
