    Hi,
I've been infected. I'm on Windows XP SP2. I did a stupid thing and installed an application called Satellite TV something and got attacked instead. My AVG detected a threat right after installation, then AVG went dead. I ran StopZilla which detected 100+ threats and removed them, but kept detecting more.

Then i ran Spybot SD, it detected more threats, and after healing, my computer would not start in normal mode. It kept flicking to the blue screen for a split second, and rebooted itself.

I've followed the steps in the Read and Run this first section, and here are what happened: (I did all these steps while running on Safe Mode)

    1. SuperAntiSpyware - it wouldn't install, gave me the System Admin policies error.
    2. Malwarebytes - It said that the file is corrupted. I downloaded it again from my notebook a couple of times, it gave me the same error, even after i changed the .exe file name.
    3. ComboFix - some weird .cfxe appeared in my process list, also claimed that my AVG is running when i didn't see any AVG process in the task list. I just went ahead and clicked the OKs and Yes. ComboFix finished running and gave me the following, as attached in cboFix.txt

after running ComboFix, my computer reboot got to the Windows login screen, but as soon as i try to enter my password, the PC reboots itself. So I logged on back to Safe Mode and went to the next step.

    4. Root Repeal - Crashed my PC twice. In the third attempt, I only selected the disk where windows is installed, with its two other partitions (attempts to scan all my drives resulted in blue screens). The report is attached.

    5. MGTools - the zip file is attached.

    Please help. Thanks in advance!

    nsa.

We would be happy to check your logs if you wish to attach them.

Otherwise, If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
