i'm looking for download accelorator

wanted free download accelerator. does any one know where to get one that will NOT screw up my OS. is "Download Accelerator Plus 7.2"
from cnet a good one? I have read some bad things about it. i.e spy ware and ad-ware.
getright sounds good but i do not want to pay........
any others out there that i should try?

I wouldn't use DAP ever again. It is(was) available from Majorgeeks.com but is (was) listed ad adware. Haven't checked it out recently. I found 130 instances of adware/spyware after I loaded it. Now use Leechget (free)

How big are the files you are trying to get? Just having broadband is in itself a download accelerator. I'm on the lowest rung of the ADSL ladder and I got 30mb in about 3-4 minutes earlier today.

It does depend a lot on the site you are downloading from as well, some sites only allow a limited bandwidth to download files from so it doesn't matter how fast you are able to get stuff as they dictate how fast they give it to you.

If you are on dial up then fair enough it'd probably help but broadband is getting almsot as cheap as dial up these days.

i have dial-up (sucks i know 10 bucks and i am unemployeed)
some of the files i would like to download are huge really huge. Oh ya the files are SHN. or FLAC. for instance look at the size of the songs listed
total size is 853.5 mbs or like 6 hours of music. i will have to wait till i get cable to do this one i think it would take 10 days to do it with dial up

I use Leechget (free) from here also. It does make a difference on broadband, too, and it integrates with my AV to autoscan my downloads for viruses, for an extra layer of safety. For some reason, I just didn't care for Fresh Download, I can't explain why.

 

Warning stay away from DAP it tried to load a trogen on install,,,and cydoor,,,,spyware,,also annoying adds,,,if you have cable or broadband,,who needs a program like this anyway !!! if on dial up can't get more then 5.6k a sec anyway !!!!

 

Halo touched on another issue that a downlaod accelerator won't help you with (well certain ones might) with files that size it is very easy for them to get corrupted. Nothing more annoying than a three hour download wrecked by either losing your connection or the file being corrupted somehow. A download manager is probably the less stressful route to solve your problem. You can stop and start a download at any point in the process with a download manager. I used Flash Get for a while and found it helpful at times, it's freeware too.

I've only been on broadband a couple of months and I didn't even bother with game and music downloads before that. Time to get a job dude!

I was once downloading steam so I could play half life with a 56k modem (yeah i know, i was desperate) and my comp had been set to turn off over a certain time and i hadn't realized this so I left it on over night. The download was not there in the morning. Boy was a i pissed.

 

have been on ADSL for 3 years,,now upgraded to bellsouth ultra 3000 DL 384 UP.....loads of bandwith=FUN

Thinks I would Die if I had to go back in time to the dial up.... pout for you,,dude get a dell,,,LOL WELL and at least netzero fast acesss,,,a cheep way to have a fast connection !!! Glenn
