n a move that may remind many of dipping their fries in a chocolate shake, McDonald’s Japan is smothering French fries in two chocolate sauces.

You read that right, the McChoco Potato is drenched with chocolate sauce and white milk chocolate.

Because two is always better than one, right?

“The combination creates a wonderful salty and sweet harmonious taste,” according to a statement from McDonald’s.

The fries will be available across Japan beginning Jan. 26.

This isn’t the first time McDonald’s Japan has put a new spin on French fries. In the past, the chains offered Shaka Shaka Potato fries, which were covered with cheese sauce or bacon.

On social media, the reaction to the chocolate fries was mixed, though some said they were ready to move to Japan to get their hands on the McChoco Potato.

I'd eat them. There's a chocolate shop on the lakeshore that makes chocolate-covered potato chips, and they're amazing! If that picture holds true to the standard advertising vs. real life of fast food, however, there's not nearly enough chocolate of either kind on them. What's shown is barely enough to taste, so you know what you actually get is going to be maybe half that.

    What Tibbs said.

On my honeymoon in Spain, The Guy and I went to a restaurant where we had a local specialty that was cheese ravioli with dark chocolate sauce. BEST. PASTA. EVER. We over-tipped that chef so badly once we realized it was him serving drinks behind the bar.

Either way, I still can't imagine them tasting any better than fries with ketchup on them. McDonalds has always done such a good job at that I don't ask for anything more.

Better, maybe not. Equally good, probably. Comparing fries with ketchup to fries with chocolate is like comparing regular popcorn to caramel corn; both are good, but in completely different ways.

Problem there is caramel popcorn has been around much longer than any of us. If chocolate french fries were really such a good idea they too would have been here long before any of use were here too. I can't blame McDonalds for testing this crap out in Japan instead of making an embarrassment out of itself here in America.

I personally don't like the taste of sweet & salty together but the picture looks good.

I just saw a video of someone in Japan who got them. Apparently, you just get fries, and then the chocolate sauce comes in a packet you break open (both types of chocolate in the same packet, just different sections) and you drizzle it over them yourself. Looks to be plenty of chocolate sauces in one packet for a medium order of fries. The guy said, "It's not that bad," for what it's worth. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Looks like something I might try, not a big fan of McDonald's though. I understand the Japanese like dried squid as a snack. I have never tried it, but have eaten raw squid many times, with a touch of Wasabi.:)

Since that's the case I'd get some ketchup on the side too. And after I try my first french fry with chocolate on it, and vomit, I could come back and eat the rest of my fries with ketchup :D

I love a combination of sweet and salty, like chutney.
But I'll give this a miss.

"Variety is the spice of life" as they say and there are many who would favour this variety - so I'm sure they would enjoy this treat.

I would lean away while still enjoying a variety of food that is tasty, delicious, adventurous and healthy. This attitude influenced by having both sides of grandparents and parents with heart disease - I don't wish to add my generation to family statistics...
