Before anyone jumps the gun with basic beginner mistakes, I wouldn't be here if I could do ANYTHING about this... I have been unsuccessful in coming up with any real answers on the web as to this "wizardsearch.org" crap, but ever since I encountered it yesterday I have been unable to do anything other than browse the internet.
I lost all my desktop icons and cannot access the start menu... when I right click my desktop it doesn't do anything. In a sense, my desktop is non-existant. When I reboot, my icons and start menu appear for a moment, but before I can do anything with them they disappear and 4 IE windows open... wizardsearch being one of them. I am unable to access anything on my computer other than IE, so I really do not know what to do now... I can't access my business files or any of my other important files... I am hesitant to network another comp to "save" my important files for fear of "infecting" another computer... SOMEBODY HELP PLEASE!!!

I have never heard of this particular problem with wizardsearch.org. There is not too much we can do for you unless you can get us some logs as requested in the READ & RUN ME. You may be able to download some tools onto another PC and then use a CD, flash drive, ...etc to copy to the infected PC.

Note even if your Deskop icons do not appear, you can often run things from Task Manager. Have you tried that?

Have you tried running the infected PC in safe mode? What happens in safe mode?

Have you tried other user accounts in normal boot mode? What happens?

well, I was having trouble even properly rebooting the computer, but I was finally able to "fool" it and restart it properly to be able to run it in safe mode... it still tried to open all of the IE windows but I am finally able to access my desktop icons and start menu. At that point I went to bed and have been at work all day so I have been unable to mess with it anymore yet... three hours last night was enough knowing that now I will at least be able to transfer my important files and just format the hard drive and start fresh...

Gave one last ditch effort today and did some searching before formatting. found a suspicious .ku file and after removal and fixing the registry... no more problems! for reference sake, it was a pain in the rear so everyone steer clear of wizardsearch.org. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the follow up. We don't see too many files with .ku extensions but I believe that it is a valid extension.
