It doesnt look real at all to me,its fair enough to use it in Terminator 2 to create a liquid metal man or jurassic park to create dinosaurs but it seems everything is CGI now,any battle scenes, aircraft even most of the characters for example

Seeing some of the outtakes of the new Superman film just bored me,I wanna see the inginuity uses in the original superman films for example tying a dummy to the bottom of the lift in the Eiffel tower and speeding up the film to make it look like he was pushing the lift up,incredibly effective, cheap and more realistic than any CGI

    Thoughts?

CGI is cheaper, and with the approaches that they are making, it is becoming more realistic nowdays.

I think CGI is a valuable tool for a film maker and should be used properly...

Consider what dinosaurs in movies looked like when they used stop motion techniques as opposed to Jurrasic Park... It allows film makers to really let their imaginations loose and visualise what they want to happen. (I know you used dinosaurs as an example of good use of CGI, so probably not the best example for me to use)

On the other hand, take Star Wars Episodes 1 to 3. Actors who have proven themselves to be talented just gave up trying to act as they did it all in a green screen room without a single real set. Okay, there was a pretty bad script too. ;) But those films are an example of CGI gone mad and when compared to something like Lord of the Rings, you see theres no real excuse for it.

Superman I though was pretty damned good! The story was really quite good and unexpectedly moving for a 'Comic Book' film. The CGI didn't really stand out to me as being overused, but I suspect I got caught up in the magic...

CGI can be very cool. I wish some of the movies made from games, like Tombraider and Res Evil had been made CGI instead. Imagine how much cooler the TR movies would have been if Lara Croft had actually looked like she does in the games, and been able to move like she does in the games!

When the movie Final Fantasy came out (gee, this must be a long time ago, I can't even remember when this was! ) I didn't want to see it, I had decided I prefered "real" actors and "real" action. I was very surprised when I saw the movie on the telly a year ago and absolutely loved it! http://members.chello.se/solange/smileys/Rotfl.gif

But maybe it is a tool best used wisely when used together with live acting. :)
